@Oakiin

For me, it was when my son who was originally planned as being perfectly straight whipped around and said "naw, I'll swing any which way, any given day"
Gave me whiplash when I realized that if his girlfriend didn't exist in cannon, he'd either be with Anthony, who died pre-plot, or Osric, a gay potato who has a bf, but if THAT bf didn't exist, they would be a couple in two seconds. As it is, his relationship with Osric is pretty close, and flirty, (thought they're both VERY loyal. They just recognize what could have been)

Somehow, I…..ended up creating a character…..who's both married to someone (and not just in a platonic/soft romantic way)…..and also ace? It was a total accident on my part, I just wasn't thinking lol. Mike started out as a cool-headed, standoffish guy who hunts monsters. Very early on I decided he'd eventually marry his second-in-command, Mariana. AND have a kid with her. Then I forgot about that detail for a couple years and really built up the unromantic side of him, to the point where I was like, 'you know what? This guy's ace. I need a cool role-model for myself.'
Cue me, much later, realizing I had to somehow make him fall in love with Mariana and being like, 'uhhhh??? This won't work at all???' So….I'll have to figure something out. He probably won't get married after all, it's too out-of-character for him XD
And that's without even MENTIONING the fact that I actually ship Mike with his best bro Bernon, but I refuse to make that canon either because it would be purely gratuitous at this point T.T so yeah

@ElderGod-Icefire

I had a character, who was straight? Had a girlfriend and everything? And then I used him in an RP with my bestie, and the character went from straight as a ruler, to like…the gayest boi ever?? And he got married to another guy and they adopted a kid, and I'm sitting there going "uhm uhm uhm Alex…"

My characters, a summary:

Me: Okay so Zenith is Pan and he's going to date Jayden-
Jayden: I'm Aro.
Me: … okay, cool, maybe-
Zenith: I'm Ace.
Me: Okay… let's add John so that Zenith has a love interest-
Zenith: I'm in love with Jayden though.
Me: I'm sorry what.
Jayden: I'm Aro.
Zenith: But I love you.
Jayden: I said I'm Aro.
John: Zenith, maybe Jayden doesn't love you, but I do.
Zenith: No I like Jayden.
Me: … why. Why do you do this to me?
Jayden: I-
Me: YOU KNOW WHAT ZENITH'S IS GONNA BE MIND CONTROLLED INTO KILLING JAYDEN!
Zenith and Jayden: Wait what.
John: … but can I date Zenith.
Zenith: No! No you can't! I'm mourning Jayden!
John: But I love you.
Zenith: Shut up I'm mourning the love of my life.
Me: … how did it get like this.

@ShadeStar

I had a whole cast who just decided to run and be all LGBT. It went something like this.

Me: Okay so Acacia you have a crush on Anth-
Acacia: No, I'm hella gay. And I like Myrah.
Me: …Okay I can work with that. Myrah was going to be bi anyways.
Myrah: No, no. I'm also pretty gay.
Me: Got it… Okay so Lotus you fall for Anthony.
Lotus: It's going to take awhile to do that.
Me: Why?
Lot: Demiromantic Pansexual.
Me: Great, slowburn becomes even more of a slowburn.
Lot: Also I am not a girl, I'm not a guy either, I'm just a person.
Me: …When did this happen?
Lot: Just now.
Me: So Anthony's pan now. I can work with that. Anyone else like to say anything.
Sonna and Grant: Trans?
Me: Fine, trans.

@Kinarymo

I had this really crappy one time villain whom i basically ripped off from Dexter's lab (remember that one episode with the blue haired alien dude? Ye, das the one.)

And one day while i was grating apples for an apple pie and trying to think about a good villain, my dad brings up the gays and boom, the rip off one time dude became my current beloved snake boi who's a scummy lil bish but also a bean - he has a bf but he's also ace.

@Morosis group

The time I created a psychopathic character and gave them no reason for their actions to break the stereotype of a villain wanting some form of vengeance or satisfaction. I made her so no one could empathize or like her but over time she began to evolve into the exact opposite and now, even I feel hopelessly sorry for her. I still managed to maintain the lack of motivation yet somehow have given her a reason to kill people and so now I have this messy, complex, emotionally frail villain who was designed to be pure evil but now is an empathy magnet

@Morosis group

Also, the time I gave my protagonist a really long arc of where he falls in love again, has a kid and becomes the husband of a political powerhouse only to then realize it didn't fit his character nor the plot at all so I had to get rid of everything and start from square one. Still, tryna figure out how to incorporate certain elements from that story.

@Althalosian-is-the-father book

Jayla was supposed to be this backstabbing person that everyone hated. And I mean hated. I hated her too. Then she turns around and she's so hella sweet and I'm so sad she's getting her heart broken and also dying.

Pyra who is renamed Gaudari was supposed to be the main character instead of my boy Zol. But the more I worked on it the more that changed and now I'm just trying to jam in some of Gaudari's backstory and hopefully getting her some POV time.

Dude dude dude. What if you have him married but still ace? What if he's like. "I like my partner. We're good friends. Wouldn't it be cool to hang forever?"

I mean, that's definitely an option I could go with. And I still want him to have a daughter, so maybe I could have him adopt her at some point. Thanks for the suggestion, one of these days I'll just sit down and figure it all out ^^

All your characters just ended coming out of a closet you didn't even know you'd have built it seems, and for me it just ends up that my characters keep dying on me for God knows why reasons.

ME TOO. And then the one character who I planned on killing is just like
“No.”

@HighPockets group

Me: So in the big pre-climax battle, Kira gets her arm taken out by the tree branch
Kira: No.
Me: Shut up. Then Amira dies-
Amira: No.
Me: No, Amira, you need to die.
Amira: No.
Me: FINE! Amira, you lose and arm and Kira dies. Are you happy now?
Both: Yes.

@HighPockets group

Me: Samuel is an only child, which is why he has so much pressure on him all the time.
Samuel: Actually I have a brother.
Me: Fine. You can have a brother, but he's not going to survive the series.
Percival:…that's a compromise I'm willing to make.

Me: Alright, so Aurelius, you get depression. I definitely want to address mental illness more.
Aurelius: Are you projecting on me?
Me: What? No! I would never!

Although honestly, in addition to that, I have so many characters who didn't go as planned. My original protagonist became an antagonist, even.

@HighPockets group

Not to break the excellent format (this one just doesn't work well with it) but Giana was initially a lot more of a stereotypical bitchy older sister than she is now. In the original idea she was very bossy and domineering, almost a minor antagonist in a way, but in this one she's still a bit cold but not out of dislike, just that she's bad at explaining her feelings and internalized guilt.

Me: Okay, so this setting is very dystopian, kinda like the Seam in the Hunger Games, and divided into sectors-
Jon: Actually it's closer to early America, pre-or-early industrial revolution.
Me: Fine! But it's heavily implied that it takes place around the Madison area, the rebel training area is the shell of West Towne and the Duchess makes her home on the Square-
Joan: Nope. It's a big city with a poorer outside area, firmly unconnected to WI except for the border on a big river.
Me: I mean, okay. But the rebellion is flashy and well-prepared-
Oliver: Actually the rebellion is pretty small and led by a depressed alcoholic and his dead fiance's brother.
Me: What the fuck has this setting become?
Nich: And my home isn't the poor parts of Twyllo, it's the bad part of Creston. Which is like Industrial Revolution America and not a super tech-driven powerhouse. Also it's too corrupt and anarchy-filled to be much of a world power.
Me: ????
Fern: Ehre's pretty much isolationist too, except for when Asher gets involved.
Me: I AM SO CONFUSED BUT I ALSO LOVE THIS!
