Resh: He follows right behind Tseth, off to the side and still in his line of sight. He walks completely silently, barely even breathing.
Parvus: He nudges Tseth with his snout, chittering quietly and tilting his head. He looks confused.
Rhiv: there's a sinking feeling in his gut. a rising tension that's put him on edge. once they get to the river, what then? what if the current's too strong? or the river doesn't lead anywhere at all? what if it's a waterfall? oh stars, he hadn't thought about that. but what's the alternative? heading back to the path and fighting the urge to strangle the scaly rat with its own spine? ugh.
Salmook: he knows that look on Pater's face. that's his "I'm-thinking-about-something-terrible" face, and right now, there's no telling exactly what that terrible thing is. Salmook has a few good guesses, though. "Do you think we'll be there before bedtime?"
(Bloop)
Tseth: He glances at Parvus and puts a finger to his lips in a “be quiet” gesture. He looks ahead and quickens his pace a bit, still making sure not to make any sound. He wouldn’t admit it, but he was thankful to Resh for staying in sight.
Parvus: He huffs indignantly, but stays quiet and curls up on Tseth’s shoulder.
Rhiv: he sighs, and he shrugs his shoulders. "Anyone's guess. I doubt it, though. I'll watch for the night, if it comes to it." he steps out into a clearing. it's much smaller than the first, and there's a thin stream trickling through it. Definitely not the river Resh saw from above, but maybe it leads somewhere?
(my words don’t word currently for this just skip my response pft)
(so just skip to ame? ok-)
(dies I can’t words either give me a moment)
Resh: He narrows his eyes, letting out an involuntary growl. What is Rhiv up to? He looks slightly startled as he stops growling, blinking a few times. Oops.
Parvus: He closes his eyes and starts purring quietly.
Salmook: he stiffens a little. did… did he just hear something? when he was with the others, it was pretty easy to forget how scary the forest was. but now, it's just him and Pater. Salmook hurries to Rhiv's side, minding the wet rocks in the stream.
Tseth: He glances at Resh when he growls, before returning his attention to following Rhiv and Salmook. He stops suddenly. He sees Rhiv and Salmook in a small clearing up ahead, and they’re walking through a stream. This couldn’t have turned out better. His wings shift a little as he considers the options.
Resh: He stops just in front of Tseth, then looks back at him, tilting his head. He mouths “you okay?”
Rhiv: he looks into the distance, his eyes tracking the stream. "If we've got any luck, this could lead to the river." he's careful enough to keep his wounds out of the water. that's… actually a pretty big problem, isn't it? how's he going to swim with open wounds? ugh.
Salmook: he follows his Pater's gaze, though his own keeps flicking towards the tree line. "…oh, okay…" he moves closer to Rhiv, although not close enough to be in the way.
Tseth: He gives a short nod, that’s only a bit convincing. He opens his mouth to speak, low enough only Resh can hear. His manner of speaking is a bit different, to lower the chance of being heard. “Bring them back or follow?” He jerks his head in Rhiv and Salmook’s direction.
Resh: He looks concerned, but doesn’t say anything else. He glances at Rhiv and Salmook, then speaks in an equally low voice. “I’m worried. Let’s bring them back.”
Rhiv: he blinks at Salmook. that doesn't sound good. he crouches down to his son's eye-level. "Are… Salmook, what's wrong?"
Salmook: he shrugs, trying to keep his eyes from flicking towards the tree line. "Nothing. I'm just… tired? Yeah, I'm tired. I- I think I'm tired."
Rhiv: he stares at Salmook for a few long seconds. real smooth, kid. Rhiv sighs, standing back up. "Salmook, I am fine. I'm going to be fine, you're going to be fine. I'll make sure of it. That's what paters are for, yeah?" he opens his arms wide, gesturing vaguely at the forest around them. "The sooner we get out of here, the sooner we can figure out how to get home."
Tseth: He nods, and takes a deep breath. He unsheathes his swords and steps into the clearing, looking directly at Rhiv.
Resh: He unsheathes his own sword, stepping in right after Tseth. He practically stares into Rhiv’s very soul.
Parvus: He yawns and looks up at Tseth, then looks at Rhiv. He hisses at Rhiv, lashing his tail.
(Everyone: intense staring)
Rhiv: he's taken aback for a bit before he narrows his eyes at the others. he takes a defensive step in front of Salmook. "Hell do you want? Because if it's an apology, you couldn't cut one out of me." he reaches for his hatchet. he hasn't gotten the chance to clean it yet, but the mess definitely adds an intimidation factor.
Salmook: why do his friends look… scary? he's almost grateful that his pater steps between Salmook and them. he backs away slowly, trying to draw as little attention as possible. all the while he looks for Pater's signal - a snap of his fingers that Salmook is all too used to. it's a signal he's used to keep Salmook safe before, and it simply means "run." until then, Salmook watches and waits.
Tseth: “We’re not looking for an apology. We want to keep Salmook safe, and the way to do that is by staying together. Walk into this forest alone, you rarely come out.” He tries to keep his focus on Rhiv and Salmook in an attempt to distract himself from the sound of the water. Analyzing their movements, waiting for one of them to do something. He was less concerned about Salmook doing something than Rhiv.
Resh: He starts growling again, glaring at Rhiv and tightening his grip on his sword. He keeps glancing between Salmook and Rhiv, not sure what he should do.
Parvus: He jumps down from Tseth’s shoulder and growls at Rhiv, flaring out his wings.
Rhiv: stars above, they even brought the scaly rat? are they trying to tick him off? "Who says I need help with that? What's he matter to you?" he twirls his hatchet as he takes a second to think. he takes another step forward, gritting his teeth. Rhiv's free hand disappears behind his back. he snaps his fingers.
Salmook: he takes off. there's a steppingstone trail across the stream, and despite his panic, Salmook makes it across. he hurries to the other side of the clearing, ducking low into the dense underbrush just in case Resh was overhead. he moves quickly, zigzagging wildly until… until… where is he? he'll figure that out later. right now he needs to hide.
