He followed them silently, gazing at the intricate symbols and writings carved into the stone walls.
Their footsteps echoed on the stone floor of the hallway. The place was dim–near lifeless.
Clover narrowed her eyes and rested her metal arm on the broken pieces of the javelin. "Quiet. Not right." Hero echoed the sentiment in Russian.
He stopped, unsure what was going on. Which was becoming a normal thing for him.
Clover ushered him over again, heading towards a large and heavy set of doors. She and Hero pushed them open, straining against the weight. The next room was like that of a throne room, but instead of thrones atop the dial was a large stone obelisk, carved top to bottom in Runes. The Caretakers approached, kneeling before the obelisk and touching their heads to the cool stone.
He just stood behind them, hands clasped awkwardly as he watched the scene.
((It seems like everyone hates Runner to begin with, then fall for him after a few days
The obelisk thrummed, glowing faintly, then went silent again. Clover laid the javelin pieces before it, muttering an apology in Runic, and walked back to Runner. "The man here drains Temple life, not only people life."
((Hero's just a flirt and is trying to rile up Clover, albeit unsuccessfully))
"Well, let's go fuck him up, then."
((maybe they just get used to him
Clover flicked away her cigarette, stomping on it. "Agree for once."
"Did it tell you where he is?"
"Basement." She led the way without waiting for anybody to follow. Hero joined her side.
He quickly fell behind the two, hiking the sleeves of his hoodie up past his elbows. The dragon on his arm twisted and turned with joy, knowing a battle was soon to come.
The Temple thrummed, and the Runes whispered to Runner. Help us… they pleaded. Free…us…
He winced at the sound, stopping and putting a hand on the side of his head. "I don't like that."
Clover turned, frown creasing her brows. "Not like what?"
He grit his teeth. "The runes, man. They're talking to me."
Hero stops, unsure what was going on. Clover waved him on, telling him to scout ahead in Russian. He does so. She turned to Runner when he was gone. "Talking?"
"Yes…" He winced again. "They're pleading for help. Telling me to free them."
Her frown deepened. "I hear nothing." She tilted her head. "You close to magic, like them. They like you."
"Tell them to stop," he said, closing his eyes tightly. "It hurts."
She shook her head. "I can't. Only you." She scruntched up her face, not liking what she's about to do. "Say: I ar goua. I mar goua."
"I ar goua. I mar goua…"
Thank… you… The Runes retreated, using up almost all of their remaining strength.
