"I mean, we had time when we were just sitting around for an hour or two…but yeah, we had a pretty busy week."
"I mean, we had time when we were just sitting around for an hour or two…but yeah, we had a pretty busy week."
"You did good in the War Games. And I hate to admit it, but I'm glad you didn't move on into the finals."
He winced at the memory of the picture. "Yeah, that makes two of us. But, Tess needed my help, so the Games didn't mean jack shit."
She tilted her head, but felt like she pried far too much into the girl's life. "I see."
"Speaking of Tess, where did she go?" he got up and poked his head out of the open door.
She was sitting against the wall, knees pulled up to her chin with her arms wrapped around them and a lost look on her face.
"You okay, love?" he asked, leaning against the doorframe.
She jerked her head up, not having heard him come out. She bit her lip, debating on lying or telling the truth. "I will be." Middle ground.
"That's not a good enough answer for me." He walked into the hall and sat down across from her.
"I heard…" she couldn't bear to finish the thought.
"Oh. Oh." He cursed himself silently for not taking his mom to somewhere private to talk.
She hid her anguish with fury. "This… this is why I don't like her. I'm sorry Runner, but she's just too goddamn nosey with no regard for how that person may feel about having their life poked and prodded and exposed…"
"She can't help it, Tess. It's basically second nature to her at this point." I thought she was talking bout me going to fight.
She groaned and dug her fingers through her hair as she dropped her head against her knees. "Tori…"
He scooted beside her and put an arm over her shoulder, shushing her gently.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. She felt like a bitch, moaning and groaning about a dead ex in front of her boyfriend.
"It's a traumatizing moment, I get it." He hid the frustration well, the only noticible change being his toes clenching and unclenching once.
"Liar," she muttered.
He didn't respond, only pulling her closer to him.
"You probably feel awful. I do, at least. I'm here, having a fit over an ex, and you're being sweet while listening. I'm such a bitch…" she muttered to herself.
"No, you aren't. I'm the one who's about to leave for fuck knows how long with 0 contact to you."
"I know Jorden. He's really smart and developed these letters that can send themselves back and forth between realms–or anywhere, really. Say hi for me, will ya? And see if he and Gwen finally hooked up?"
He tilted his head, then smiled slightly. There's an upside, though. I'll probably end up with abs."
She chuckled. "Aww. No more cushy baby fat."
"Ah, I will miss you. Mr. Belly," he said, patting his stomach.
