He was unable to see where she was because of the murkiness of the water, so he walked back up the beach and sat down on one of the chairs, rubbing his chin.
Her stomach growled, and she bid farewell to the fish and made her way back to the beach. When she made it to where she could walk on the sand, she rung out the water in her hair and headed towards Runner and the chairs, forgetting about her self-consciousness.
He smiled as she walked up. "Hey."
She smiled back. "Hey. I got hungry." She sat in the other chair and pulled out a sandwich from the basket for her. "You want one?"
"I'd probably throw it back up if I ate something right now."
She set the basket down. "Am I that ugly?" she joked before taking a bite.
"God, no, you look insanely beautiful."
She choked, startled. "I was not expecting that as an answer," she managed to cough out.
He shrugged. "It's the truth."
She turned a little rosy. "O-of course, I know that. I was just wasn't expecting you to say that." She turned her attention to her sandwich.
He turned to her, doubt evident in his eyes.
She refused to look at him, keeping her eyes glued to her sandwich as she ate. Gods, I half naked in front of him and he just called me beautiful. She suppressed her blush.
"I thoughtt you were supposed to be some badass warrior," he said, leaning over and poking her cheek.
She snapped her teeth at him, showing fangs. "I am a badass warrior, I'll have you know." She held her head up high. "I am quite feared on the battlefield."
"Not if you keep acting like this, you wont. Everyone's gonna see you as some sappy romantic."
She snarled halfheartedly. "And what about when they see the oh-so-badass demon prince snoring on my couch and being cheesy every chance he gets?"
"My reputation's already tarnished. I'm just taking you down with me."
She laughed. "Like I have a good reputation to begin with." She flashed a grin. "But I appreciate the thought."
"Ah, yes, the pasty demon prince and his loveable thief sidekick."
She snorted. "'Lovable.'" She poked his chest. "And I'm no sidekick. If anything, you'd be my sidekick."
"Until I call you pretty and then you're off in the corner blushing."
"I do not!"
He gives her an Oh, really? look.
She set down her sandwich and leaned over, putting on her signature 'I want you' face that typically had men falling to their knees. It was a great way to grab some money the easy way.
He stared t her with his own trained look, the "completely blank." It took incredible willpower to keep it up, but damn it, she wasn't going to win this time.
