@lisapickle

(Okay, thanks for letting us know, Bandito!)

Silver glanced over to where she knew Gabriel was, even though she couldn't see him. She sensed where he was and where his face was, making eye contact with his invisible form. "Well, let's just head out and try to stay alive and see what happens. You'll make my wings invisible?"

@chickenfrogman group

Before she can finish her sentence, her wings have disappeared. Gabriel stands still, blinking.
If I don’t bring someone in soon they’ll send in the higher ranks to bring back the group and me.
He stand up straight, removing his arms from the counter.

@lisapickle

Silver started a little, not used to the area behind her being so empty. She fluttered her wings to assure herself they were still there, and then gave a shaky laugh. "Wow, I feel weird. Okay, let's go." she headed for the door, but stopped when she got to it and turned to 'look' at Gabe again. "Wait. You've been in the city before, haven't you? You know you way around? Cuz… I know where like three things are. Without being able to fly I'm gonna get terribly lost."

@chickenfrogman group

Gabriel takes her hand and walks out the door with her, keeping himself invisible.
Of course I know the way around. They’ve been training me to kidnap since I was abducted.
He leads her down the street, takes a left, retracing the tracks of the car they had driven there in.

@lisapickle

Silver skipped alongside him, giving a little laugh. "You know if you stay invisible we're gonna look even weirder. We're supposed to be looking normal." She squeezed his hand and fluttered her wings again. "I never thought anyone without wings ever looked weird, but I feel wrong even though I can still feel them. I can feel that they're not visible." She groaned and threw her head back. "Gabriel, I feel so many things. It's super frustrating sometimes."

@chickenfrogman group

Gabriel glares as he continues to walk.
Shut up. People are going to notice and look. Keep your thin lips together and just /walk/.
He lets out a tiny sigh.
Get used to not having wings. It’s not like they’ll let you keep them.
He gulps, his eyes widening for a moment.
maybe I shouldn’t take her in…

@lisapickle

"Hey," Silver poked his unseen shoulder. "I can't actually read your mind, Gabe. I know you have thoughts in there but I can't hear them."

@chickenfrogman group

Good.
He continues walking, glaring at the ground again.
They took Benson’s wings… I don’t think he was able to take it. Would she die? She’s small.
He looks up at the starry sky, a bit frustrated but making sure to keep the emotions to himself so Silver could feel them.
Why would I care??
Would I care?

@lisapickle

She felt his tension even as he hid his emotions. The conflict raged inside him, a sudden new peak adding to the storm she'd learned was normal. She leaned her head on his shoulder for a moment–only a moment–, before straightening and trying to walk normally. "Are you always this cold, Gabe?" she squeezed his hand. "Are you sick?"

@chickenfrogman group

It’s her or Kissa, Gabriel. Her or Kiss.
He looks to Sil, still glaring.
“I’m just cold. I- I’m fine.” He says, his voice faint and scratchy as usual.

@lisapickle

"Oh, hey," she said gently, smiling at him when he finally spoke. His wispy voice was almost as cold as his skin but somehow Silver felt better when he actually talked. Like he was more present than when he was completely silent and invisible and withdrawn. "People aren't supposed to be super cold, Gabe. I can't imagine it's good for your health."

@chickenfrogman group

I’m not human. I’m a monster.
He leads her down a back alley through the rest of the rich neighborhood and it slowly turns into the nastier streets, lights flickering and groups of young adults talking loudly with their drinks in front of houses.
He glares at the people, and every now and then one will glance over at them.
Disgusting.

@lisapickle

Silver shrank closer to him as they entered the rougher area. One part of her mind whispered Hey, this is where I belong. I've done this before. To which her present conscious cried, Why is this familiar if I don't remember any of it?? She clutched Gabriel's hand like a lifeline, trying to channel her energy into him and keep from getting overwhelmed by all the input of the people they passed.

@chickenfrogman group

Gabriel puts a wing around her, though since it’s invisible she can still see through it and the people can still see her. But it’s there and she’s safe. He continues striding on, trying to take smaller steps so she’s walking and not jogging.
Only a few more miles.

@lisapickle

"Thanks," she whispered, just loud enough for him to hear. She focused on trying to walk like usual, and not curl into his side. "Where are we going?"

@chickenfrogman group

My cell.
He keeps his eyes forward and doesn’t waver.
Her or Kissa, Gabriel.
Even with those thoughts in his head, he makes a sharp turn into a small bakery that had just opened for its early morning hours.
(I’m guessing it’s about 4am)

@lisapickle

The cloud of fresh smells assaulted Silver's nose and she nearly gasped, all the other stimuli evaporating. Her stomach growled and she let out a laugh. "Oh, bless you, Gabe. We could have left the house hours ago if I'd known this is where we were going."

@chickenfrogman group

Save your breath, this isn’t where we’re staying.
He pushes a few coins into her hands and walks to the window of the shop, staring out.
I can’t do this.

@lisapickle

Oh, that's right, he's invisible. Silver choked down her laughter and approached the counter. Not many items were out on display yet, but she scanned the menu until someone came out from the back with a fresh tray of bread to cool.
Silver counted the money Gabe had given her and bought a small loaf of the still-warm bread, two cinnamon rolls, and two muffins from the previous day that the owner was only too glad to get rid of. Silver bounced over to where Gabe waited and gave him the change, gently hugging the paper back to her stomach. "Oh, I'm sorry!" She gasped quietly, barely whispering. "I forgot to ask what you wanted. But I got you a cinnamon roll and a muffin and we can split the bread. I hope you like it."

@lisapickle

"Aww, come on, Gabe." she said, settling in beside him and removing a cinnamon roll. "I can't eat all this myself. And I don't want to eat alone." she held it out to him, blinking into the space beside her.

@chickenfrogman group

He leaves the cinnamon roll, ignoring her and looking out over the street. He creases his brow.
But I know Kissa.
He lets out a small sigh and takes the cinnamon roll, setting it in his lap.

@lisapickle

Silver grinned as the cinnamon roll vanished when he touched it, and happily dug around in the bag for her own. There were several people loitering on the street in the pre-dawn darkness, and Silver had mostly managed to tune them all out and block herself from sensing them. So she barely noticed when a girl across the street pushed herself off the wall she'd been leaning on and casually strolled into the street toward them, hands in her jean pockets.
"Silver?"
Silver's heart froze, half from someone noticing her when she was out here, exposed in public, and half because that deep part of her mind knew that voice.
She glanced up and saw the girl standing a few feet off, body language casual, face slack, but Silver's senses unlocked and suddenly she was overwhelmed by the girl's fear, pain, desperation, the endless nights of tears–
Silver gasped, her lungs forgetting how to work. It was all her own pain, her own fear, but in someone else; compounded. There were memories in this girl of Silver herself and yet Silver didn't know her.
"Sil?" the girl said again and Silver blinked, finally seeing her. The red hair. The hoodie tied around her waste. The sneakers that should have been trashed years ago.
She did know her.

@chickenfrogman group

Immediately Silver becomes invisible and Gabriel stands. He glares down the red head, standing over her (he tol).
dont touch her, she’s mine. his mind hisses.
