Y’all know what time it is,,,, time for Ame to make bad choices!

”Welcome to Suncrest Academy, the best boarding school in the district!”

Your character is enrolled in Suncrest Academy, one of the best boarding schools in their area. They could have transferred from another school, or have been homeschooled until that point. Or they’ve been enrolled for a while. Your choice! The school is for grades 6th-12th. (Though I’d prefer if characters were high school age.)

”We make sure that you feel right at home here. After all, you’ll be living on campus for the school year.”

The truth is, like most schools, they don’t do much to make students feel safe or welcomed, other than a few nice teachers. Bullying is a big problem, and living on campus just makes it harder to escape from.

”We’ve had quite a few new students this year, be sure to give them a warm welcome.”

Daphne was homeschooled for most of her life. She was always kept in her house, not really seeing much of the outside world. She wasn’t even homeschooled by her own parents, though that wasn’t actually that bad.

But it was certainly nice to hear that she would be going to Suncrest the next year. She’d finally get out of that house for a while, and maybe meet some people her own age that didn’t hate her.

The poor girl had no idea how toxic high school really was, even at Suncrest.

It was her first day of ninth grade and nobody had talked to her, or even looked at her. She got weird looks when she tried to say hello to anyone. And now she’s sitting in an auditorium, around a bunch of unfamiliar faces in an unfamiliar place. But at least they didn’t hate her. Maybe.

”…be sure to give them a warm welcome.”

Resh had heard this speech a million times before. School conduct, dress code, “we’re the best school ever!” and everything in between. He’s been a student since sixth grade, after all.

He’s not the best in his class by any means, but he does at least try. Somewhat. He gets along with most of his teachers regardless, though.

It’s easy. Just be respectful, and if they’re still an asshole, be one back.

He feels a bit sympathetic as he watches the new kids. A lot of freshman kids go into high school expecting it to be fun. He made the same mistake, too. But he didn’t really have much going for him, anyway. Albinism. Autism. For God’s sake, he was on the track team.

Long story short, high school is toxic as fuck. And he definitely learned that the hard way.

So basically, high school au of your character(s) of choice. My characters are altered versions of Resh and Daphne (obviously). I just made them into humans, lol.

No idea what I’m gonna do with the teachers. I might just play most of them since classes won’t be the main focus here.

@the-void-phantasmic language

Daphne stood by the doors of Suncrest Academy, her backpack slung over her shoulder. Just go in. It’s not a big deal.

Except it was a big deal. She’s never been to an actual school before. And she was starting ninth grade at sixteen years old. Would everyone else think she was dumb? Probably. And she couldn’t blame them; she should be a junior by now, but she was pushed back because she was so behind in homeschool…

At least she was somewhere other than home. If she could really call it a home…

Daphne took a deep breath, then walked into the school.

Immediately, she feels overwhelmed. She’s surrounded by people, and of course they’re all being very, very loud. She fumbled in her backpack for her headphones, trying her best to avoid running into anyone.

That had failed, miserably.

Daphne yelled in surprise after someone came from behind her and practically shoved her out of the way. “Shit-!”

”Watch where you’re going, idiot!”

She stumbled and fell over, dropping her backpack. The contents of it spilled out a bit. “Sorry…”

Resh pulled his backpack out of his car and shut the door, not even bothering to wear the backpack. “Just one more year and I’m out of here.” He grinned at himself in the reflection of the window, then turned and jogged towards the familiar doors to Suncrest.

He’s gone to this school practically his whole life. Since sixth grade, anyway. But that probably counts.

He pushed himself through the crowds with ease, but something caught his eye… or, more accurately, someone.

A girl, who looked about a year or two younger than him, sitting on the ground and picking her things up off the ground. Perfect, people are already treating the new kids like shit.

He walked over to the girl, crouching down next to her and helping her pick up her things, without saying a single word.

Daphne looked up in confusion. “Uh-“

Resh glanced at her and gave her a lopsided smile. “Hey. You okay?” He quickly zipped up her backpack and handed it to her, then stood up and offered his hand.

Daphne stared at Resh for a moment, then awkwardly takes his hand and pulls herself back up. “Thanks… I’m fine.” She avoided eye contact and spoke in a near whisper, it was a miracle that Resh heard her in the loud hallway.

Resh looked down at Daphne and tilted his head. “You new here? I haven’t seen your face before.”

“Yeah… I’m a freshman.”

A freshman? This kid looked almost his age. He wasn’t one to judge, though, so he didn’t say anything about it. “Do you need help getting to the auditorium?”

Daphne nodded slightly. “If that’s okay…”

Resh put a hand on Daphne’s shoulder. “Yeah, no problem. Just stay close to me and try not to get trampled.” It was clear in his tone that he was joking.

Daphne flinched away from Resh, which earned her a very confused look, then sighed at herself. “Okay.”

The two of them pushed through the crowds, then eventually made it to the auditorium. It was equally as crowded, but most people were sitting down this time. Resh quickly found some empty seats for him and Daphne, and guided her towards them. There, he saw some familiar faces.

“Hey! Mind if we sit with you?”

(Cue the adhd friends!!)

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

(Vibrating)

Aelin was in the auditorium, sitting with her brother while they waited. It was loud as usual in there, so she tried her best to ignore it.

She looked up when she heard a familiar voice. When she saw who it was, her face lit up with a smile. “Of course, Resh, it’s good to see you again.” She silently elbowed her brother in the side to get his attention. “Who’s your friend?”

It was clear she was referring to the girl who was with him. Aelin didn’t recognize her, so she must have been a new student this year. She looked about her age…

Tseth sat in his seat, likely zoning out as he listened to music through a pair of headphones.

That is, until Aelin jabbed him in the side.

He quickly took his headphones off, glaring at Aelin and speaking to her in Russian. ”What was that for-“

He quickly realized there were a couple people watching them. Did he know them? Ehhh, he didn’t think he did. He didn’t remember most of the students that were here. “Oh. Hello.”

@the-void-phantasmic language

“Oh, this is one of the new freshman students.” Resh looked down at Daphne. “I don’t think I caught your name, actually.”

Daphne looked up and stared at Aelin and Tseth for a moment, then blinked and looked at Resh. “…Daphne.”

Resh nodded. “Daphne. Got it.” He looked back up at Aelin and Tseth, then sat next to them, gesturing for Daphne to sit as well. He poked Tseth in the shoulder. “Hey, aren’t you the guy that almost never showed up for class last year?”

Daphne sat down next to Aelin, staring at the ground. She was wearing her headphones around her neck, but she hadn’t put them on. Now that people might talk to her, she didn’t want to look rude. Or make anybody mad. That wouldn’t be good.

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

Freshman? She seemed around Aelin’s age. Well, Aelin wouldn’t question it. Instead she smiled at Daphne and decided to introduce herself. “It’s good to meet you. I’m Aelin.”

She extended her hand as a greeting, waiting for her to take it.

Tseth shifted to look at Resh, slightly off-put by the question.

“…Do I know you?”

He didn’t recognize him. At least he didn’t think so. Given Resh’s appearance, Tseth felt like he would be hard to forget. But he also knew about Tseths questionable habits of skipping class, so he probably did…

@the-void-phantasmic language

Daphne looked up at Aelin. She slowly took her hand. “Uh… it’s nice to meet you, too…” Wow. She’s really pretty… She stared at Aelin for a bit longer than she probably should have.

Daphne shook her head and looked down again, slightly embarrassed. Shit, that was weird-

Resh laughed a bit, then shrugged. “Damn, I guess I’m not interesting enough for you to remember.” He gestured a bit vaguely. “We were in the same class.”

He narrowed his eyes slightly at Tseth. “You should really stop skipping class, though. That never turns out well.” He seemed oddly serious at that statement.

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

Tseth smirked. “I barely even remember the teachers, but if you want to give yourself that much credit.”

His gaze wandered for a second after Resh’s statement, but he quickly gained focus again. “Thanks for the advice, but my grades are fine. Appreciate your concern.”

@the-void-phantasmic language

Resh rolled his eyes and elbowed Tseth. “I’m serious. If I don’t see you in class, I’m gonna find you and drag you there myself.” It was supposed to be a threat, but the smile on his face didn’t help get it across much.

He looked up as someone up on the stage tapped her microphone. The rest of the auditorium went quiet as well, reduced to hushed chatter.

“Hello, students. Welcome to Suncrest Academy. We’re very happy to have you here today.” The woman smiled brightly at everyone.

Resh sighed. “Yay, I get to hear this for the fifth time.” He crossed his legs and leaned forward slightly, although he was really just starting to zone out.

Daphne snapped back to reality as someone started speaking. She pulled her hand away from Aelin’s and looked up at the stage. She’d try pay attention for at least a little bit.

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

Tseth rolled his eyes in turn. “I would love to see you try.”

He quickly looked up at the woman on stage. He hoped she’d have something actually important to say, or else this day would already get off on a bad start.

Aelin blinked and folded her hands in her lap, looking up at the speaker. She never got to hear this speech last year since she joined late, so she’d do her best to listen to it this time. Of course, she didn’t hold high hopes.

She took another glance at Daphne from the corner of her eye, thinking to herself for a moment.

@the-void-phantasmic language

(Just gonna skip the speech bc it’s not that interesting lol)

Resh looked annoyed as the woman spoke.

“As you all must know by now, Suncrest Academy is the best academy in the district. Every kid that goes here comes out successful!”

Lie. Resh’s grades were mediocre at best, and he was trying.

“We like to make sure students feel welcome, safe, and secure while on campus. We have a zero tolerance policy for bullying.”

Another lie. There’s a reason he keeps an eye on the freshmen each year. And Daphne would be no exception.

Resh leaned back and started nodding off a bit. The rest of the speech was just a jumbled mess.

Daphne zoned out for most of the speech. She had snapped out of it just in time.

“Please stop by the gymnasium to get your locker numbers and dorm keys.”

The chatter had gotten louder again, and Daphne winced slightly. She quickly put her headphones on, then pulled out her phone and started scrolling through music. She just picked a song when Resh lightly tapped her.

“Hey, Daphne, come on.”

Daphne looked around, then followed Resh, staying next to him. He felt like the safest option to be around at the moment, but that might have been because she was kind of desperate to make a friend or two here.

She glanced back at Aelin. She could already tell this was gonna be an issue… but Aelin probably didn’t like her back, anyway. It would probably be best to avoid her…

It couldn’t be that hard. She was a freshman, and Aelin was probably a junior. They wouldn’t cross paths much.

(Daphne you are sadly mistaken)

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

Tseth… immediately started zoning out after the first couple sentences. Standard introduction speech, he didn't need to hear any of it. Accompanying that, he started tapping his foot. Which was probably annoying. But once people started getting up and leaving, he looked around at them. Shit, I was probably supposed to hear some of that. Where is everyone going?

He looked over at Aelin, which was probably a silent call for help more than anything else.

Aelin had surprisingly paid attention to most of the speech. Granted, she did lose focus a few times. But she doubted anyone paid attention to that small detail.

She caught Tseth's look and raised an eyebrow. "Did you get any of that speech?"

"None. Where are we going?"

Aelin rolled her eyes and chuckled. "Gym. Need to get keys and whatever. But next time you're on your own."

Tseth took the chance, looking overly-dramatic. "I thought we were family, Aelin."

She just laughed and lightly pushed him, before heading in he direction of the gym. Tseth followed close behind.

@the-void-phantasmic language

Daphne hummed quietly as she walked by Resh, her music helping her feel a little less anxious. She just stared at the ground for most of the walk to the gym.

Resh glanced down at Daphne. Bad idea to look down so much, she won’t memorize the school’s layout as easily.

…He’d mention that later.

Once they got to the gym, Resh got out of the way of most of the crowd. He tapped Daphne, then pointed at his ear. Pause the music.

Daphne looked up at a Resh, already getting a little fed up with all of his tapping. She pulled her headphones off. “Hmm?”

“The table on the left is where you’ll get your locker number. The one on the right is room keys. Okay?”

Daphne nodded. Oh. Right. He’s being helpful. “Thanks…” She fidgeted for a moment, then put her headphones back on and headed towards the two tables. She decided to get her locker number first, then her key.

Daphne stood in the hallway, leaning against the wall. She stared at her key and smiled a bit. For the first time in a long time, maybe things were finally looking up.

Getting this excited over a dorm key was pretty weird. But Daphne hadn’t ever felt safe back at her own house… maybe she could feel safe here.

She furrowed her brows slightly. Don’t get your hopes up. Daphne sighed, then looks at the map of the school that she got from one of the tables. I just need to find the girls’ dorms. That shouldn’t be too difficult…

Resh quickly got his key and his locker number, then made his way to the boys’ dorms. He knew the way by heart at this point.

Once he got to his room, he opened the door to see someone very familiar. His roommate since ninth grade. He smiled as he closed the door behind him.

“Hey, dumbass.”

Tsadi looked back and saw Resh, then smiled back. “Hey, bastard. How was summer?”

“Pretty good. Too bad we don’t live very close to each other, though. I missed you.” Resh pulled Tsadi into a tight hug.

Tsadi rolled his eyes at Resh, hugging him back. “You’re such a dork.”

“I know.”

Daphne walked down the hallway of the girls’ dormitory, glancing at each room number and mumbling to herself.

“Room number… ah, here it is.” She unlocked the door and opened it.

She was greeted with a decent sized room, at least for a dorm. It was also pretty nice. There were two bunks on each side, with a desk underneath them, probably for schoolwork. There were two small dressers next to each bed as well. Daphne set her backpack on the bed closer to the window. She looked around some more; there were two doors, one leading to a bathroom and the other leading to a closet.

Daphne climbed up to the bed she had set her backpack on and started unpacking some of her stuff.

@Morals-are-for-mortals language

Tseth regarded most everyone in the crowded hall with nonchalance. And the ones who gave him weird looks—likely because of his appearance—he gave a glare and that seemed to deter most of them.

That was how it was all the way up until he and Aelin got to the gymnasium. He was surprised none of the kids had tried to start a fight. He remembered that from last year quite clearly. Namely, him being given the title of “raccoon” or “raccoon eyes.”

But all in all, last year wasn’t complete shit. Just mostly. Also note the Russian jokes made in poor taste. He’d probably hear those again.

He shook his head and pushed his way through the swarm of high school and middle schoolers to the tables, grabbing his key and number.

But before he left the gym for the dorms, he took a moment to try and spot someone else among the crowd.

Aelin made her own way through the crowd, eventually getting up to the tables and getting her own locker number and dorm key. She thanked the teachers at the table, and then quickly weaved through the sea of people again.

She remembered most of the layout from last year, so it wasn’t too hard to find her dorm.

She turned the knob, half-expecting it to be locked. But surprisingly, it wasn’t. Her roommate must have beaten her here.

She entered the room, and to her surprise she found Daphne. What a nice coincidence.

“Fancy meeting you here,” she said with a smile.

Maybe he’s not here yet.

Tseth was… slightly disappointed for some reason. He knew that his family had moved here just recently and that he’d be coming to this school. The two of them did talk a lot.

He reached for his phone in his pocket, but ultimately decided against it. He’d see him sooner or later.

@the-void-phantasmic language

Daphne looked over at Aelin, visibly startled. “Oh- hi.” I guess it’ll be harder than I thought to avoid her. She blinked a few times, then hopped off of her bed and started putting some of her clothes in her dresser.

The silence was a little uncomfortable, but Daphne didn’t really know what to say. And she wasn’t really sure if she wanted to try and start a conversation. For some reason, that just made her uneasy.

Resh pulled away from Tsadi’s hug, then sat down in one of the chairs and started digging through his backpack. “Let’s see what classes we have this year…”

Tsadi sighed and sat in the other chair. “Ugh, were seniors now.”

Resh nodded. “Yup. I feel old…” He pulled out the 12th grade class schedule, making a dramatic ughhh sound as he read it. “Fuck, we have calculus. Well, pre-calculus, but still.”

“We’re fucked.”

“Exactly.”

(No idea how seniors/senior classes work but that’s ok)
