(wheeze)
(Anyway)
(Assume any full italic dialogues are a different language cough)
Aelin shrugged and went over to her own bed, setting her backpack on her bed and taking stuff out.
She would admit, she was a little startled that she’d be sharing a dorm with Daphne. Not in a bad way, though. It was just the fact that… eh, no, she wouldn’t think about it too hard. That would probably just make it worse.
Tseth left the gym, headed towards the boy’s dorms. That’s when he found who he was looking for. Fairly far down the hall, he could recognize that clothing and hairstyle anywhere.
He sped up his pace, catching up to him quickly. He tapped his shoulder, nearly startling the other student as he turned to look back at Tseth. But that quickly changed to a smile as he recognized who it was.
Tseth quickly wrapped him in a hug. ”Been too long, Alex.”
Alex returned it, laughing a bit. ”We talk almost every day. But I missed you too,” He said as he pulled away and looked up at Tseth. “Headed to the dorms?”
Tseth nodded. “Mm. We can walk there together.”
(The girls are simping✨✨ we love to see it)
Daphne glanced at Aelin, then finished unpacking her clothes and pulled out her phone. I should probably text Lili and let her know I’m alive… She sat down on the chair next to her desk and opened her messages with Lili.
I just made it to my dorm, so I’m alive for now
probably gonna die soon tho. Roommate is hot asf 👀
They were a bit hard to read with the cracks on her phone screen, but her phone wasn’t completely broken yet, and she definitely didn’t have the money for a new one.
It wasn’t that her family wasn’t well off, she was just ignored and left to fend for herself half the time.
She sighed, then put her phone away and kept rummaging through her backpack. She didn’t really bring much. Just clothes, which she already put away, her phone and headphones, and some scrunchies for her hair. She always wore the same worn-out pair of boots, and a lot of her clothes were hand-me-downs.
In short, Daphne wasn’t in the best condition. But it was good enough. She was alive, and that’s all that mattered, right?
She tugged at the sleeves of her sweater. It was still a little too hot for sweaters, but there was no way in hell she was wearing short sleeved shirts. Not here, anyway.
(Ah she types just like you /j)
(Also I’m gonna assume Lili needs to respond to that so uh squints and adjusts my non-existent glasses)
Lili responded almost immediately to Daphne’s text.
Happy you’re alive :) also 👀???
Do you like her?
And how’s the school so far? I heard it was supposed to be nice but public schools are kinda terrible anywhere.
It seems she’s piqued Lili’s curiosity.
Aelin packed away her own stuff, making a mental note to try and get some more of her stuff from home when she had time. She had packed, well, probably as much as she could that she would need.
But she also knew that she could probably ask Tseth for something if she needed it, because she knew he most likely overpacked as well.
As Tseth and Alex searched the halls for their dorm, they both stopped at the same one.
They had a bit of a ”Wait, what?” moment, before they realized they were sharing a dorm.
Alex, in short, was panicking. He didn’t not want to share a dorm with Tseth, since they’d known each other for pretty much their whole lives, but that the same time he was also the one with the crush on his best friend. And he didn’t think this would help with that.
Tseth had a few questions himself, but overall he was pretty positive about it. “Huh. That’s nice.”
He unlocked the door, quickly walking in and setting his bag on the floor. And then he flopped on his bed, staring at the ceiling.
Alex flipped on the light, and then sat down on his own bed.
(Lili is so precious I can’t)
Daphne pulled her knees to her chest, then took out her phone again. She seemed lost in her own little world as she texted Lili back.
Girl of course I like her 😭😭
She probably doesn’t like me back tbh, I’m just a weird little gay kid who got pushed back like 2 grades ☠️
School’s uhhh… ok I guess. I got shoved over by some random asshole right when I walked in so that was nice. Theres this senior that helped me out this morning tho, he seems pretty cool
Her nails clicked on the screen as she typed. Yet another annoying thing that she’ll never get away from. She could trim her nails, but she just broke them a ton anyway, so there was no point.
Resh had just started unpacking when he heard his phone ring. He picked it up and wedged it between his shoulder and the side of his head. “Hello?”
”Hey, just wanted to check on you.”
It was Teth. She went to a different school than Tsadi and Resh did, but they still kept in touch.
“Well, hello there. If you’re wondering, yes, I’m still alive.” Resh chuckles.
”Good. You sharing a room with Tsadi again?”
“Of course I am. I don’t think that would change now if it hasn’t changed since our freshman year.”
Tsadi listened to Resh chattering excitedly on the phone and laughed a bit. Teth always called at the beginning of the school year. She and Resh were always like brother and sister.
He started unpacking his own stuff, staring out the window as he did so.
Hey, you never know. It is the first day. Rooting for you
Sorry it was off to a bad start :( seems like you might have some friends already tho :D
Aelin awkwardly looked around the room, giving Daphne an occasional glance. Come on, idiot, start a conversation or something.
“Who are you texting?”
Oh. Well that just sounded nosy. Especially since Aelin just met this girl about an hour ago.
Tseth glanced over at Alex. He was glad that he was able to see him again after such a long time. It was difficult to leave him in their home country, but they were still able to talk over the phone a lot.
Being in person was better, though. Conversations were easier, especially with the lack of a time difference. “How do you like it here so far? Is the rest of your family okay?”
Alex looked over at Tseth. “Ah, they’re alright. It’s different here, but not in a bad way. Though the kids in this school so far don’t seen very friendly.” That was an understatement. He was pretty sure he got about 9 different people looking at him weird, and he didn’t even say anything to them.
Tseth sighed and nodded in agreement. “They’re assholes. Don’t worry about them.” And if someone messes with you, they’ll regret it, he thought.
Maybe, we’ll see
At least I got out of the house, no idea what I’m gonna do during breaks tho
Don’t think they’ll let me stay on campus for breaks :/
Daphne bit the inside of her cheek. She hadn’t thought much about that. But she knew the school wasn’t a good permanent solution. She couldn’t really get one until after she graduated, which was in a long time…
Daphne sighed, then looked up at Aelin, a bit startled. “Uh… just my friend, Lili.” Is it just me or was that weird-
You know I’m always available if you need somewhere.
Oh well. Maybe we can get together if you’re free soon?
Aelin nodded. “Oh, nice. Uh… tell her I said hi.”
I am an idiot.
She stood up and walked to the door. “I’m gonna walk around for a bit and get my bearings. I’ll see you later.” She waved, and then was out the door.
“Okay. See you.” Daphne waved back, giving Aelin an awkward smile.
I know :) you’re the best. I might try to go and visit my family for maybe a day or two during breaks tho, still wanna see my sisters at least
Maybe if I don’t have too much work we can meet up this weekend?
Also, roommate says hi lol
She sighed, then pulled her class schedule from her backpack and skimmed over it. Ew, Algebra. Biology might be fun… hopefully I won’t have to dissect anything.
”Hey, put me on speakerphone. I wanna talk to both of you.”
Resh glanced at Tsadi, then set his phone on his desk and set it to speaker. “Teth wants to annoy both of us, apparently.”
”Shut up.”
“Hey, bitch.” Tsadi said over his shoulder.
“Dumbass.”
The three of them all chatted as Resh and Tsadi were either unpacking or yelling at the phone. They were mostly arguing, but somehow in a friendly way.
Sounds good! My weekend is free.
Omg hello roommate
I need to meet her immediately
Tseth and Alex had entered a state of casual conversation while they unpacked their stuff. They were talking about almost anything that came to mind, though it was hard to tell since they spoke in Russian. They both agreed that they would speak normally in their dorm, since they had no reason to do otherwise.
Soon though, Tseth got a text from his phone. It was Aelin.
Hey idiot. You’ll never guess who my roommate is.
Oh and did you find Alex yet? I saw you looking for him in the gym.
Tseth quickly responded.
The girl who you were looking at?
Who sat next to you
At speech
Also yes. We are roommate
Aelin leaned against the wall of a hallway as she texted her brother. She was surprised at how quickly he had guessed. But she was more interested at the fact that he and Alex were sharing a room.
Oooooh
Also I was not looking at her. But yes.
And as she guessed, he responded exactly how she thought he would.
”Oooh” nothing
And you were)
Daphne laughed and shook her head at Lili’s response.
Chill out lmao-
Anyway fingers crossed that I don’t get swamped with hw on the first week of school 🙃
She checked the time on her phone. She knew classes wouldn’t start until tomorrow, so she was gonna be doing whatever she wanted until lights out.
Maybe she should explore? She felt like that would eventually get her trapped in a conversation with someone. But maybe not?
She narrowed her eyes and stared out the window. Maybe I’ll just stay in here…
Good luck! (ノ◕ヮ◕)-.✧
(Lili uses emoticons fight me)
Aelin rolled her eyes and decided not to respond to that last text.
Yeah sure. Anyway I'm in the hall that connects the boys and girls dorms. You and Alex should come out here. Want to say hi to him.
k
Tseth looked up from his phone to Alex. "Sister wants to say hi. Want to go?"
Alex glanced over at Tseth, putting away he rest of his stuff. "Of course. Let's go."
And they were out the door.
(That makes her even more precious I’m,,,,,,, instantly perishes)
ty :)) ima walk around for a bit. Ttyl
Daphne put her phone in her backpack and stood up. She couldn’t just sit around all day…
She sighed and grabbed her backpack, then walked out the door and into the hallway.
As soon as she got outside, the loud chatter of students immediately made her regret leaving the safety of her dorm room. She looked around, then found a spot next to the building that didn’t have any people and leaned against the wall, watching the others wander around and get into fights.
(Brain is not braining)
(Hehe)
(Also neither is mine we need help /hj)
Bye, don’t dieee
Getting through the crowded hall was more difficult than Tseth thought. He really hoped that this was just because it was the first day, and that it wouldn’t continuously be like this. But it seemed the connecting hall was the most crowded. How did Aelin even get there?
He made an impulsive decision and texted her.
Cahnge of plan. Meet outside?
Cant get through people
Change*
shut
No))
Alex looked at the swarm of people and internally cringed. “Is it always like this?” He asked Tseth.
Tseth looked down at him and shrugged. “I don’t remember much from last year. Maybe.”
And then he turned in the other direction, headed to the exit for outside.
Alex sighed and walked a little faster to catch up with him. Tall people.
Daphne closed her eyes and turned her music up, tuning out her surroundings. She was more relaxed than she’d been in a while.
Unfortunately, she caught the attention of three other girls. And they weren’t very friendly, to say the least.
“Hey, check out the new kid.”
“Isn’t she the idiot that got pushed back to ninth grade?”
“I think so.”
The girls laughed, then started walking towards Daphne. ”Hey, new kid!”
Daphne didn’t hear the girls calling her. Her music was way too loud. She did notice when one of them suddenly grabbed her shoulder. She quickly flinched, pulled away, and took a step back, taking her headphones off.
The tallest one of the three rolled her eyes. “Oh, so now you listen to us. You know, it’s rude to ignore people, moron.”
Daphne stuffed her headphones into her backpack, staring at the ground. “I- I’m sorry, I didn’t hear-“
“Then maybe don’t walk around listening to your music all the time. And look at me when I’m talking!” The girl shoved Daphne into the wall, glaring at her. “Asshole.” The other two stood behind her, snickering.
Daphne yelps and looks up at the girl in front of her, blinking back tears. She wedged herself into the corner, holding her backpack in front of her as a mediocre shield. “Don’t hurt me…“
(Heathers music starts playing)
(I’m sorry)
Aelin sighed and pushed her way through the halls out to the exit. She slipped past a couple people through the doorway, letting out a sigh of relief when she finally got outside. It was already a little less crowded.
She glanced around, trying to spot the tall mass of black clothes that was her brother. But instead she saw something that was much more concerning, and much more important.
”Hey! What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
Aelin looked practically pissed off as she approached the four girls. And she sounded that way, too, based on her tone of voice.
(💀 I didn’t even think about that-)
The girl in front of Daphne completely ignored Aelin, but the other two immediately turned around to face her. They both laugh at her.
“None of your business. Now get lost.”
Daphne stared at Aelin as she approached. She looked really angry, and even though Daphne knew she probably wasn’t mad at her, she couldn’t help but feel a little more scared.
The girl in front of her tilted her head and gave Daphne a condescending stare. “Aww, are you gonna start crying now? It was just a little push.”
Daphne was practically hiding behind her backpack now, glancing around at everything that was happening. This was a terrible idea…
(Ngl my brain is picturing the two underlings doing everything in sync like creepy dolls)
“Oh really? You three are already being complete bitches and it’s only been what, a few hours? A bit pathetic.”
Aelin looked right at the third girl with her next words. “You’re a coward to target her.”
Tseth and Alex eventually got outside from the boys dorm. Admittedly, pretty difficult. But now they just had to find Aelin.
Tseth looked around, generally glancing over the few fights that were taking place and not looking too hard at who was in them. But it seemed with that technique he wasn’t all that successful. Come on, she’s not that hard to spot, is she?
Alex tapped him on the shoulder, gesturing with his thumb over to one of the fights. Oh.
And Tseth thought he would be the first to get into a fight with someone.
(There’s one leader and the rest just share a braincell)
One of the two girls facing Aelin narrowed her eyes. “Pathetic?” She slowly walked towards Aelin, staring at her for a moment, then threw a punch to her face. The other girl quickly joined in and lunged at Aelin, while the third one looked at them and watched.
Daphne watched the fight break out, then carefully tried to sneak away. The girl next to her noticed and grabbed the back of her shirt, throwing back into the corner. “Not so fast.”
Daphne dropped her backpack as she hit the wall again, throwing up her hands to shield her face. “No, please-“ she started, but she was interrupted by the girl punching her in the jaw, disorienting her. She slowly sunk down to the ground as the girl relentlessly beat down on her.
(I may have gone overboard but shh no I didn’t)
(Oh so you want these people to all get the shit beat out of them /j)
(Pfff-)
Aelin stumbled back from the punch, quickly returning the favor as the two of them essentially started attacking her.
But it didn’t take long after the two girls started beating Aelin up that one of them was violently grabbed by the collar of her shirt and thrown to the ground. Hard. All she was able to see was a flash of black as the one who caused it moved for the girl beating Daphne.
Aelin quickly took the chance to focus on the one still on her, kicking her in the gut. She was past caring about how injured she or the other girl got. It was a full-on fight now.
The first girl yelled in shock as she was thrown to the ground, struggling to catch her breath as the wind was knocked out of her.
The second girl staggered back when Aelin kicked her, and now she looked a bit scared. She hesitated, then went to attack her again.
The third girl kicked Daphne in the head, causing her to crumple to the ground like a paper bag. After that, she immediately turned and started to run away.
Daphne laid on the ground, barely conscious at this point. She squeezed her eyes shut and started to cry. Everything hurt, and she could barely tell if she was bleeding or not. All she knew was that none of this was unfamiliar to her…
She tried to push herself back up, although she was in absolutely no condition to do so. She collapsed again after only a second.
