Shard Universe
Adventure/Mystery
It's mostly how humanity is now, except humanity evolved to have from 1 to 7 life shards born with them.
Most class struggles throughout history were no longer about race, power and economic reasons, but shard count. In this fictional timeline, years ago, there was a power struggle between the people with seven, and people with one. Some members of the group with seven were murdering the group with one for their shards or something. And now, there's tension between the two groups due to the tragedy long ago. The country is fractured due to the vitriol of their groups ancestors, and the main character wrestles with the fact that some of his ancestors did bad things, blah blah social commentary. Each of them has a distinct physical discrepancy, and that's how you tell surface level who has what.
One: larger eyes
Two: Double jointedness in the shoulders
Three: Pointed ears
Four: Really tall
Five: Long hair
Six: Lines on their fingernail
Seven: Dichroic eyes
Eight: Small face tattoos
Mostly the same as World History, except most conflicts are fueled by difference in shard count in populations, and I made a new country for funsies.
Humans are born with a power shard. They're hereditary, meaning the parents determine the shard number. The mothers shard number is the one the child is born with. Each shard number type has a summonable weapon, most not yet determined.
One: Staff
Two: Spear
Three: Sickle
Four: Shield
Five: Hammer
Six: Flail
Seven: Knive
You can steal someone else's shards by killing them, but only with your weapon, and only once you hit eight. If you reach eight, you basically become immortal to natural causes, but you can be murdered with some difficulty.
Physics work how they do on Earth. Gravity, Conservation of Mass, it's all identical.
Technology is pretty much the same, but guns aren't always used, seeing as shards are only able to be taken by your summonable weapon.
The people with 7 shards committed atrocities against those with 1 shard a good 150 years ago. Kinda meant to be a parallel to the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade. But now, the groups live together, with the stage set for the groups to get along. But the actions of a few people decades ago cause unrest between the two groups. And with that, the book will follow a seven shard, and tell a message of how to deal with some bad things your ancestors did to another group. You know, what happened 150 years ago was bad, and an atrocity against innocent people. But, the people alive now aren't responsible for the sins of their ancestors, and that people have moved on. And that now, after relations have become equal between then two groups, they should strive for a United future, not focus on a divided past.
You know, social commentary.
