Centriball

A basketball-like game played using a ball with a leather strap attached to one side by two or three teams.

Centri

Centriball is played on either a 86' by 48' rectangle court or a hexagonal court with alternating edge lengths of 86' and 48' (diagram pictured in the image gallery), depending on whether you're playing with two or three teams. Typically, the court is either concrete or polished wood.
The hoops used for scoring in Centri are 3.8' (45.6") in diameter, and the tri-fold backboard is made up of three rectangular boards placed at 120-degree angles of each other. The three boards are each 26" by 50", and the hoop is attached vertically in the center of the middle board. The bottom rim of the hoop is 10' off the ground.

Centriball is played using only the court and the ball. The ball is 10.2" in diameter. It's made of a rubber air bladder with a layer of fiber and leather on the outside (similar to a basketball). Attached to the ball is a leather strap about 6" in length. The strap is actual 12", but is folded in half and attach to the ball at both ends.

When playing Centriball, you play with either two or three teams. When playing with two teams, there are 5 people of each team on the field, with up to 5 on the bench, for a total of 10 players per team. When playing with three teams, there are 4 people of each team on the field, with up to 4 on the bench, for a total of 8 players per team.

You score by throwing the ball through the other teams' hoop. The hoop is placed vertically, making it easiest to throw it through the hoop from the side. However, because of the tri-fold backboard, it is possible to throw the ball and ricochet it off of one of the sideboards and through the hoop. By throwing the ball through the hoop, your team gains 3 points, and if you ricochet the ball off of the backboards through the hoop your team gains 4 points.

The reasons for being penalized are:
- Not spinning the ball from the leather strap while moving with the ball
- Hitting another player with the ball while spinning it
- Hitting another player with any part of your body
- Pushing or shoving another player
- Touching the hoop with any part of your body
- Grabbing the ball or strap while another player is already holding/spinning it
- Unsportsmanlike conduct

Penalties include:
- Ball pass-over (restarting the round with the ball in the other team's possession)
- Free throw (the other team gets a free throw at your hoop from one of the designated free throw points)
- Forcible Bench (you are forced to switch with one of your benched teammates)

You win by having a higher score total at the end of the game. The game ends after 3 thirds, each third 15 minutes long with a 10-minute break at the end of the first and second third. If there's a tie, a 5 minute overtime is conducted, and whoever scores first within that 5 minute period wins. If neither team scores during that 5 minute period, the match is declared a tie.

Centri is played a lot like basketball. To start each third, both teams begin with at least one player from their team within the centermass (the larger circle in the middle of the court) without leaving their side of the court. These players are called the Massers. The rest of the team may be placed anywhere, as long as they're on their team's side of the court. The ball is tossed upwards by a referee, and the game starts then.
Traditionally, the tallest player is assigned to the position of Game, which is a kind of Masser. This is to give the team a better chance of catching the ball once it's thrown to start the game, and the Game is usually only used at the beginning of a third-round or at the beginning of a round in which their team starts with the ball.
Once the ball is thrown, it's usually tipped, meaning it's hit to direct it either towards a teammate or away from another team, or caught.
When the ball is thrown into the air, you're then allowed to roam freely around the court. This is often used with a fast runner, nicknamed the Jumper, who will begin the round near the edge of your team's side of the court and immediately dash to where the Game intends to tip the ball to once the ball is thrown into the air.
When moving around the court, you must be swinging the ball in a circular motion as you move around the court. If you're stopped or your feet are off the ground, you're allowed to stop swinging. Generally, this is either to pass the ball to a teammate or to attempt to score.
When swinging the ball, there are two rules:
- It cannot touch another person
- It cannot touch the ground
If you're to break either of those rules, the referee will call foul, resulting in a penalty.
When shooting to score or any other time, you cannot touch the hoop or the backboard with your persons. If you do, the ref will call foul.
When passing the ball, the ball may touch the ground once before being caught or intercepted.
If the ball at any time bounces on the ground for more than one consecutive time, the round ends and the ball is turned over to whichever team touched it last. If you attempt to pass the ball and it bounces twice, you'll restart the round with the ball in your team's possession. However, if someone from the other team hits it out of the air and then it bounces twice, their team will start with the ball.
When a new round is started with the ball in a team's possession, it starts a bit differently. The teams still begin with one player within the center mass, but the ball starts out being held by the Masser of that round. The Masser may or may not be the Game depending on the strategy being used for that round.

Masser - A player who plays center court. Usually, the one(s) to start out the round inside the centermass.
Game - A Masser who specifically plays center when a round begins with a throw by the referee. Typically the tallest person on the team.
Jumper - A player who starts the round at the edge of their team's side. Once the round starts, they dash to where the Masser is intending to tip the ball to.
Intercept - A player whose main goal is to either hit a pass or throw out of the air or to catch said pass or throw.
Hooper - An Intercept who specifically guards their team's hoop, attempting to keep throws from scoring.
Tripper - Pretty much any other player. Usually attempt to score, and try to keep the ball while moving inwards to score on another team's hoop.
Flipper - A Tripper who doesn't often score, usually a role played by a Jumper when their team doesn't start with the ball in their possession.

Because of the size of the Centriball ball, being spun around and hitting someone can be a relatively bad injury, depending on the speed and area hit.

Similar to basketball uniforms, but a grippy glove is worn on each players' dominant hand.
