Human Appearance

Dragons appear to be normal Humans when in their human form, and can run the gamut of normal Human appearances in all but one way. A dragon carries a mark on their body called a Scale that only appears while they are in Human form.

Identifying Markings

The Scale is a single dragon scale located somewhere on the body, that is the same color and shape as the dragon scales are in Dragon form. These are generally found in the same place each time, but they can move around. The scale is usually small and able to be held in the palm of the hand when removed, although it can be bigger or smaller per player choice.

The Scale is removable and can be tugged off the skin with some difficulty; it is also "shed" every so often, anywhere from once a month to twice a year. It takes 24 hours for a new Scale to appear once the old one has been removed or shed.

Other Forms

All Dragons have two forms, their Dragon Form and their Human Form. They can transform between these two forms at will using their draken magic. These forms are permanent and the ones the Dragon will have all their lives.

Other Form Details

The Dragon Form appearance can vary wildly from dragon to dragon. The design of the dragon form is wholly up to the player. The appearance does not have to tie into the elemental draken magic they can use, nor do colorings or markings matter.

The only restriction is that the dragon form must have all four legs, and can only have one set of each appendage - so only one tail, one head, two wings, etc. They will also all breathe their element. Otherwise, the dragon form can be designed per player choice.

Health & Healing

Dragons are considered tough, hardy creatures in either their Human or Dragon forms.

Communication

A Dragon can communicate with others while in their dragon form. To other Dragons, Phoenixes, Shifters, and Selkies, they can speak and be understood as normal.

For everyone else, Dragons can communicate via a one-way telepathy while in their dragon form. They can only project their thoughts out, they can't take thoughts in or read minds. They do not have access to this while in their Human form.

Species Traits

Dragon scales are considered potent magical artifacts. Even after they have been separated from either the Human or Dragon form, they can continue to retain their magical properties for years after being lost or shed. They can be used in spell ingredients, potions, rituals, and most commonly armour and weapons.

A Dragon's Size

On FMRP, dragons are bound to a specific size chart to better give players an understanding on height and general size while they are in their dragon form. There is no minimum size for a full-grown adult dragon, but there is a maximum size.

Dragons are measured from the ground up to the top of the shoulder, like horses. Length is measured from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail. Fully grown dragons range anywhere from 6 feet to 15 feet in height.

The ratio for a dragon's height, size, and wingspan is 1:3:2. For every 1 foot tall, a dragon will be 3 feet long. Then, for every 1 foot long, the wings are 2 feet wide.

So, for example, a dragon who is 6 feet tall from ground to shoulder would be 18 feet long from nose to tail, which would make their wingspan 36 feet long from wingtip to wingtip. This is the size of an average 2 seater airplane.

A dragon can grow to the absolute maximum size of 15 feet tall. This would make the maximum length 45 feet long, and the maximum wingspan 90 feet long. This is the size of a small commercial airline plane. This is the maximum size we allow for dragons. Anything larger is not allowed.

If you would like to include the specific measurements, here is a list of the most common sizes:

  • 6 ft tall, 18 ft long, 36 ft wingspan

  • 7 ft tall, 21 ft long, 42 ft wingspan

  • 8 ft tall, 24 ft long, 48 ft wingspan

  • 9 ft tall, 27 ft long, 54 ft wingspan

  • 10 ft tall, 30 ft long, 60 ft wingspan

  • 11 ft tall, 33 ft long, 66 ft wingspan

  • 12 ft tall, 36 ft long, 72 ft wingspan

  • 13 ft tall, 39 ft long, 78 ft wingspan

  • 14 ft tall, 42 ft long, 84 ft wingspan

  • 15 ft tall, 45 ft long, 90 ft wingspan

Branch of Magic

All dragons possess a form of magic unique to their species: draken magic. Draken magic is a kindred spirit to other branches of magic used by other supernatural creatures. This is the only branch of magic dragons can access, and they are the only species able to access it.

Basic Magic Information

Draken Magic is unique in the fact that it is actually 6 different, unique branches of elemental magic that all converge within one species. Which elemental magic a dragon has is completely by chance, and it is the only element they will have their entire lives. (Meaning, which element of draken magic a dragon has is 100% player choice, but they can and will only ever have one element.)

Draken Magic is made up of three parts: the ability to transform between the Human and Dragon forms; the ability to fly; and one of the six elements outlined below: sun, moon, earth, fire, water, ice.

Dragons are unable to fly or breathe their element while in Human form, but they have full access to their elemental magic otherwise.

There are currently no restrictions on the scope of elemental magic the dragon is able to perform using their draken magic. Meaning, for example, an earth dragon can do anything that would fall under earth elemental magic, and so on for the other elements.

Transformation Type

Dragons can transform between their Dragon Form and their Human Form at will. It is a full body shift between forms.

Magic Abilities

Sun Elemental

Dragons with the sun element are considered sun dragons or light dragons. These dragons have access to the draken magic of light manipulation, and their breath is a beam of pure light.

Sun dragons are not able to fly or breathe their light beam while in Human form, but they can perform light-based elemental magic.

Moon Elemental

Dragons with the moon element are considered moon dragons or shadow dragons. These dragons have access to the draken magic of shadow manipulation, and their breath is a beam of miasmic shadow.

Moon dragons are not able to fly or breathe their shadow beam while in Human form, but they can perform shadow-based elemental magic.

Earth Elemental

Dragons with the earth element are considered earth dragons or poison dragons. These dragons have access to the draken magic of earth manipulation, and their breath is a beam of poison gas.

Earth dragons are not able to fly or breathe their poison gas beam while in Human form, but they can perform earth elemental magic.

Fire Elemental

Dragons with the fire element are considered fire dragons or heat dragons. These dragons have access to the draken magic of fire manipulation, and their breath is a beam of fire. This type of dragon is what is considered common outside the supernatural underground.

Fire dragons are not able to fly or breathe their fire beam while in Human form, but they can perform fire elemental magic.

Water Elemental

Dragons with the water element are considered water dragons or steam dragons. These dragons have access to the draken magic of water manipulation, and their breath is a beam of pure steam.

Water dragons are not able to fly or breathe their steam beam while in Human form, but they can perform water elemental magic.

Ice Elemental

Dragons with the ice element are considered ice dragons or frost dragons. These dragons have access to the draken magic of ice and cold manipulation, and their breath is a beam of frosted ice.

Ice dragons are not able to fly or breathe their ice beam while in Human form, but they can perform ice-based elemental magic.

Weaknesses - What are the weaknesses of Dragon?

Their magic is more powerful in their Human form, while their scales, claws, and dragon breath can defeat most enemies in their Dragon form.

date_range Age & Development
Lifespan

Dragons can live to a maximum of 2,000 years.

Age Details

Dragons have 6 stages of life, with each stage being considered a milestone for that Dragon:

Hatchling: birth-50 years, considered a child
Broodling: 50-250 years, considered a teenager
Adult: 250-500 years, considered a young adult
Prime: 500-1000 years, considered an adult
Senior: 1000-1500 years, considered a senior
Elder: 1500-2000 years, considered an elder

Magic Access

Born Dragons are born with their human and dragon forms already in place, but their Scale does not appear on their Human form until they reach 10 years old. They are able to transform at will between their Human and Dragon forms from birth.

Development

A Dragon's Human form appears to age as a normal Human until they reach their late teens. Then they will age more slowly for the rest of their lives.

The actual maturity level of the Dragon is Player Choice. A 30-year-old Dragon can either be maturity-wise 30 years old or maturity-wise a Child, because they are a Hatchling.

All born or turned Dragons have full control over their ability to fly and their draken magic by the time they reach the end of the Hatchling stage. Each subsequent age gives the Dragon a power boost in skill, strength, and power, until they reach the Senior stage, at which point their magic levels out, and begins to decline through until the end of the Elder stage.

Turning a Human

Humans can be turned into Dragons if two conditions are met: the Human must be holding a dragon scale, and then bathed in a dragon's breath while that Dragon is in dragon form. If both conditions are met, the Human is instantly turned into a Dragon and changes into their new Dragon form on the spot. The scale they held is lost, and they are not damaged by the dragon breath.

The turned Dragon is able to transform between Human and Dragon form at will, but it can take years to learn how to fly properly and use their draken magic.

The owner of the dragon scale and the owner of the dragon breath does not have to be the same Dragon. The Scale can be either the Scale from their Human form or a scale from their Dragon form.

Humans often mistake dragon scales for rocks, gems, or opaque glass, and as a result there is quite a lot of jewelry that contains pieces of dragon scales. So Humans can be accidentally turned when a Dragon attacks thanks to their dragon scale jewelry.

Turning Everything Else

Dragons can only be created by being born a Dragon or turned from a Human. Once someone is born or turned a Dragon, they will always be a Dragon. There is no way to become a Human or a different Supernatural creature.

groups Culture
Children

Dragons can have children with the following species besides themselves:

The child of a Dragon and another species will always be the species of one of the parents.

Example: The child of a Dragon and an Aether will either be an Aether or a Dragon. There is no such thing as a 'hybrid' species.

Other Species Relations

Dragons can tell other supernatural species apart through a combination of scent signatures and magic signatures. They can use a combination of both to suss out another supernatural species.
