Bosporus

Fortified Scientific Trade Settlement

An unaligned commerce outpost with origins dating from even before the First AGI Wars.
It was founded by a rogue group of transhumanists, who saw that their plan of advancing humanity into a new era was an idea feared by the population at large.
Their prescience would produce the settlement known as Bosporus, named after the strait that the mythological figure known as Io waded through as a heifer.
This group used the mythological Io as an analogy for a wandering and despairing humanity, left at the behest of a cold and uncaring creator who changed her into something she's not.
This transhumanist movement offered a solution, much like how the heifer reverted to her prior form, except in reverse.
Ascend or resign yourself to obsolescence.
While this ultimatum seemed rather extreme, the advent of the 22nd Century has vindicated their efforts, for better or worse...

• The name Bosporus being associated with Io's namesake was a complete coincidence on my part, but one that I'm not going to complain about.
