The simmering war between Arbas Gaelith and Sahaladir has taken a toll on both nations both in soldiers and in equipment and ships. In response, both nations began contracting with private vessels for a variety of missions, from military engagements to logistics and sourcing.

A privateer is a private group operating under the auspices of a military power to take on missions. The line between a privateer and a pirate can get very blurry under these terms with the military leadership sometimes making the distinction years after the fact.
