The Devout

A secret order dedicated to protecting Lunnoar

A secret order with an ordinary name. Those who decide to become members of The Devout are in for an eternity of hardship; they sign up in one lifetime, and give up their memories so that they can function without prejudice. From there members of the order are given false identities and sent to live elsewhere in Eralon where they establish themselves as part of the various communities and live for the duration of their normal lives. When they die, for whatever reason, the order takes their bodies shortly after and brings them back to Khelgard where they are reincarnated, their souls pulled back from the Soul Stream without the process of conversion that normally allows souls to come into their next lives without issue.

Those who have gone through this process a few times retain the muscle memories of their past lives, and maintain other parts of who they had been. A member who was a dwarf and then became an elf, for example, might grow out their beard in very dwarf-like fashion but have no understanding of why they feel compelled to do this. One who was once a human but becomes a halfling may still instinctively duck through certain doorways, or a tabaxi turned orc might find it hard to balance without their tail to assist.

But no matter what, becoming part of The Devout is forever. Their soul will never know the feeling of being wiped pure by the Soul Stream, and they will forever serve Lunnoar (Neutral) even if they have been reincarnated so many times they do not know why anymore.
