While washing his clothes in a nearby river, a demon comes across his path and- due to goblin rule- he does not let the demon pass without solving his riddle or giving him two pure silver Nickels. The demon has no Nickels and answers the riddle incorrectly- meaning Zachary may now live in the demons home for as long as he pleases.
It’s a thrilling experience...especially since the demon hates his guts.

Cancer

Zachary is a young goblin that lives in a thickly wooded forest far away from any hugely populated city. All goblins- in this universe- grow up independently and only interact with their parents/other goblins when necessary.
Zachary is a sociable goblin but has yet to of found another one of his species in the woods he lives in. It makes him sad. But, one day while washing his clothes in a small stream, a young mortal boy ( or, at least that is what he thought at first) stumbles across his path. Now, knowing the ways of a goblin by birth and excited for a new friend, Zachary forces the boy to try and answer his most obscure riddle or give him two silver nickels. Not having and nickels, and failing to answer the riddle correctly, Zachary- by goblin law- is allowed to live in the 'mortal' boys house for as long as he pleases.
From then on, Zachary befriends the (reluctant) boy- which he later finds out to be a demon- and goes on adventures with the demon boy and his strange friends.
