LANTIRN was originally a late GRU war mechanoid designed to keep relatively primitive "rediscovered systems" in line by representing a large apex predator.

After the AAF was formed, the AAF First Directorate decided to liquidate the unneeded machines and give them new uses.

LANTIRN is less modified than others in his class. Originally designed for HVT capture and extraction, the AAF added subduing chemicals and anti-inhibition compounds, making detainees more cooperative and susceptible to interrogation.
