-born into a middle class British family; has a twin sister(Ffion) and little adopted brother(Anais).
-ever since he could remember, Malachi has felt as though he was dead. it wasn't until he was 4 years
old that he could finally put his thoughts into words. his parents, horrified by Malachi's revelation, take him to numerous psychologists, psychiatrists, and therapists
-when he was 11, his father left the family to move across the country and be with his gay lover; Malachi harbors some resentment towards him for abandoning the family so suddenly but isn't bothered by his sexuality.
-came out as gay when he was 13; his extended family is bothered by this, but his mother is fully supportive.
-meets Ilya at a house party when he was 16; Ilya was 19 at the time. Malachi is instantly swept off his feet, and the two end up ditching their friends and leaving the party together. they end up wandering the city streets and stay together until sunrise. after their first encounter, the pair are virtually inseparable.
-Ilya becomes a bad influence over Malachi; he begins to ditch school and his former friend group in favor of spending time with Ilya. he starts to hang out more with Ilya's friends rather than his own, only keeping up contact with friend 1 throughout his relationship with Ilya. a couple of months into the relationship, red flags begin to emerge, but Malachi willfully ignores them since he is madly in love with Ilya. Ilya's true colors begin to show about 6 months in; the two get into an argument and Ilya puts his hands on Malachi while screaming in his face. Malachi is visibly shaken and Ilya apologizes afterwards, but this is only the first of many times that he acts out in this aggressive way.
-Malachi is pressured by Ilya into experimenting with various drugs (cocaine, pills, psychedelics). Malachi started smoking weed when he was 13
-as their relationship progresses, Ilya begins to lash out more and more (is physically aggressive, continuously ridicules Malachi and calls him names, etc.) eventually, after about 3 years, they come to an agreement to stop dating, but Ilya manages to pressure Malachi into remaining friends.
