Carla grew up in a middle-class neighborhood. After her father died when she was young, her mother raised her. Carla got her first job as a health center receptionist at age 18. Carla never felt the need to officially 'come out' as gay as she felt people already knew. Carla decided not to go to college. She fought crime because she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps when she stumbled into his lair. When Carla's best friend Alice Alice Anne Thomas fell on hard times Carla was there for her developing feelings in the process.
