Taika was a very powerful Seer, one who looked at her visions as a blessing rather than a curse. She enjoyed having them to some extent, even, and always told people the truth even if it would hurt sometimes.

When Sapphire Tuala was born Taika loved her, but in tracing the symbol on the infant's belly that marked her as a Chosen One she had another vision. While she didn't tell anyone what it was she did write it down in her special journals, and then drugged Sapphire and removed her eyes.

Because of this Taika was deemed unfit to care for Sapphire and the infant was placed in an orphanage. Taika killed herself a few days later, and as per her wishes her body and all the books of her visions were burned. No one knew what her final vision was, the one that led her to blind Sapphire, and no one ever will.
