Damian was a childhood friend of Rez, and like a second brother to Pixel. After Rez and his father disappears, Rez has an idea of what happened to them.

Entrusting Pixl to Rez - At first Pixl mistook Damon's hostility towards Rez for a shallow, un-nuanced rivalry. Though deep down Pixl ponders whether his unabashed hostility is fueled by a more intimate, unspoken truth - That Damon cares about Pixl more than he lets on, that deep down just as much as Pixl has began to feel, begrudgingly so, that Damon has replaced his brother Rez - perhaps Damon felt this shift too.
