Mid-High School level
Born in France and lived there for 9 years before moving to the United States. Throughout her high school life she searched for something to put her passion towards through taking multiple different kinds of classes. Her efforts didn't come up with anything that stuck with her, leaving her lost in trying to find herself and her "calling in life".
On one day she is dared by a friend to spend the night at a supposedly haunted mansion. Accepting the dare, she spends the night in the mansion only to be awoken from strange sounds echoing from beneath the floor. After investigating she finds a trap door that leads deep underground and into a massive, mansion-like complex.
After more investigating, she happens upon a large main hall of sorts, filled to the brim with creatures of all sorts of shapes and sizes. Terrified out of her mind, she attempts to escape only to run in face-to-face with a giant snake-like monster who then takes her into the main hall where the other monsters reside. Immediately crowded around, she explains her situation and how she got here to the best of her ability. When most of the monsters calm down, she cannot contain her curiosity and begins asking many questions.
The snake monster from before introduces himself as Leviathan, and begins to explain the monsters' own situation of being forced to take refuge underground as humanity's numbers soon grew to exceed their own, explaining that both monsters and humans are kept to a strict agreement to never interact after events that happened in the far past. While monsters have general disappeared from the general human consciousness (aside from people such as governmental leaders who keep in contact with the monsters' own governments), monsters had to leave the surface as humans began to take it over.
Catherine, beginning to feel sympathy for the monsters as Leviathan's story unfolded, volunteers herself to make an effort to help monsters come back into contact with humans and try to reunite the two races. From this point onward, with much convincing, Catherine begins to travel to other monster settlements with help from others in the mansion to learn more and more about the many different cultures in monsterkind to gain the knowledge needed to properly reintroduce humans to monsters.
