Ratel was born in Alkia. At 5 years old, all the children in Alkia start training to become soldiers. She was put in the Petlast division under Captain Agria . Ratel ended up in a pedastric relationship with Captain Agria. She remained in the army until she turned 15, nearing the end of her agoge. They were tasked with killing slaves in order to prove their loyalty to the Thracian Army. Ratel refused and deserted, She lived in the wilderness by herself for a year, before running into Ken and joined the Hadean Organization .
