Main Name
Numb Tongue
Name Meaning/Significance
- Numb Tongue's new name was derived from a common symptom in dental patients who undergo heavy amounts of anesthesia during surgery. The end result of this anesthesia would be nerve numbing in the tongue, making the tongue numb to sensory input from food.
This hints at Numb Tongue's habit of dosing on Radust-7, an addictive pain removal drug created by the P3 Group.
Numb Tongue's name is also ironic in a sense. He isn't numb to pleasure at all. He actively seeks it and derives great enjoyment from it.
Numb Tongue's name may or may not also be derived from the shape of the nanite appendages that he creates in order to serve as data extraction units and extra limbs.

Numb Tongue had first heard about Io from a bounty set by the Executive Division, demanding her capture for 4.44 million MDD. A bounty in this region was already rare. A bounty this valuable was only encounterable once every hundred years.
As such, Numb Tongue had begun his search for the AIO in order to lay claim to the bounty.
Numb Tongue's hunt would remain unsuccessful for a long time, with many potential leads for her ending up leading nowhere. That was until Numb Tongue was contacted by an unknown affiliate of the Science Division.
Their message was both bizarre simple. Apparently, the AIO had apparently made a new life for itself as the Triadmus Order Priestess known as Io (nee Ion).
Numb Tongue felt stupid for not realizing it sooner. How could he have missed this? Io's execution via the Horns was heavily publicized by Executive Division anchors after all.
Lucky for him, the messenger conveniently left coordinates for Io's current location in Sector 13.6.
Numb Tongue would make the journey from Sector 13.3 to Sector 13.6, having used a hidden Ascender to make his way to the Lesser Junkyards.
Numb Tongue would bide his time near the home of the Dealbreakers, the group Io was last seen with according to the Science Division contact.
He would set traps for them. Just in case.
And if that didn't work, he had a friend that would love to smash heads with Io's entourage.
Numb Tongue would reveal himself as explosives went off, eviscerating Blowstick's lower torso to kingdom come, mangling one of Dreadnought's legs, and causing Dreadbomb's missile arms to explode prematurely.
Numb Tongue would make a beeline for Io, using his nanite ability gained from dosing on Nanitus to open up his torso and entrap the Scout Unit within his chest region.
Numb Tongue would then deploy a smokescreen to the remainder of the group as he fled, Fallen Heifer in tow.
They were prevented from pursuing him further by Blindor, who was eager to make the Dealbreakers remember what their little cow did to his career in the games.
Elsewhere, Numb Tongue was already in an Ascender bound for his home in Sector 13.3.
Numb Tongue could hear and feel the cramped Io, who was squirming around the inside of his chest compartment, desperate to escape.
Numb Tongue would taunt her by turning his face inside out to the inside of his compartment in order to watch her.
Numb Tongue mocked and cackled at the scared little Scout as he arrived back home in his Sector 13.3 bunker.
Once he arrived at home, Numb Tongue would "have some fun" with Io, who was seemingly content with the torture, even with the worst of it.
When Numb Tongue was finished with this, he sent a transmission to the Science Division Contact, who was very pleased with his find.
However, in order to assure that the AIO was the real deal, Numb Tongue was ordered to make his way to the top component of Sector 13 and finish the transaction there.
Numb Tongue would take an Ascender all the way to the peak of Sector 13, with Io sitting comfortably within his chest cavity.
Numb Tongue believed that Io had cut her losses and was waiting for death's release to relinquish her memories, as futile a hope that was.
However, in actuality Io had been biding her time, the resolve of going back to her found family and telling them on how she circumvented Numb Tongue, the infamous Nanite Scrapper who had performed numerous abduction jobs like this in the past with little trouble.
She wanted to make them proud.
And so, Io had begun exploiting her minimal experience with controlling nanites and had taken advantage of a weak spot in Numb Tongue's chest armor, which had been structurally compromised thanks to the amount of times that he used his nanites to enter the chest cavity, which was partially Io's doing, as she had tempted Numb Tongue to use his nanite appendages to extract data, which didn't work, much to his frustration.
After Io had deceived Numb Tongue's internal detection system by tricking some instances of his internal nanites, she would begin to hit and claw at the chest of Numb Tongue, which didn't immediately concern him due to his drunken state.
Once he did realize, it was much too late to undo the damage Io had done to his chest.
Numb Tongue was already within targeting range of MOUNT-3, a Mount owned by the Science Division for bartering with natives of Sector 13.
Numb Tongue would try to neutralize Io non-lethally by trying to overwhelm her systems with Nanite Interference, but the gambit failed, with Io's arm and head being able to breach his armor, which also leaked significant amounts of Radust-7 from his body, leading to Numb Tongue groaning in pain.
As Io tried to worm out her entire body from Numb Tongue, the turrets of MOUNT-3 would begin a firing sequence, shooting through both Io and Numb Tongue.
Io would use her arm shields, Nanite Abilities, and parts of Numb Tongue's body to shield herself from the hailstorm of bullets. While this whittled down the shields to minimal functionality, Io would make it through unscathed.
Unfortunately for Numb Tongue, he had sustained much more damage from MOUNT-3's gunfire, with his armor being weakened from Io's little stunt in his compartment.
A guard affiliated with the Science Division would then pop up from his designated ambush location, prompting Numb Tongue to try and fight back until the Science Division Contact would stop MOUNT-3's defenses and request the guard to stand down.
The irritated Numb Tongue would explain himself as he tried to pin Io to the ground, who had fully escaped from the compartment during the guard's assault.
The contact would introduce himself as Beetle Bit, a local munitions scientist who had allied himself with the Science Division after they caught word from hearsay in the Sea of Ruin.
During his introduction, Io would break free from Numb Tongue, as his weakened form couldn't keep the spry Mecharus from fleeing the scene.
After waiting for him to calm down a bit by allowing Numb Tongue to punch the guard, who was named Gigantor, Beetle Bit would then explain to Numb Tongue that he had already been paid the 4.44 million MDD promised to him through a PsiNet transaction. All that was left for him to do is track down the AIO and bring her back to the Science Division in exchange for 3 thousand UMC, the exclusive currency of Heaven's Tomb.
With this in mind, Numb Tongue would chase down Io throughout the Sectors, and from thereon out, Numb Tongue would zealously hunt down Io in order to both satisfy his desires to finish the job he started and receive the extra funds Beetle Bit promised him, which would slowly balloon the more Numb Tongue failed to capture Io.
