The city of Thorngate is a mystery, for it has always been an insular city that even the likes of The Adventurer's Guild have been unable to penetrate. Most of their agents are spotted, and those that aren't make it in but are then never heard from again. They can't get a read on what's happening, which made Kaida very valuable to them when she came to them looking for refuge - one of just a handful of people to make it out alive.

In exchange for everything she could tell the Guild about the city they helped her disappear; changed her name and appearance, faked a back story for her. While it's too dangerous to send her anywhere near the city just in case, Kaida takes jobs in other parts of the world as much as she can to help out. Seeing how seriously The Collapse impacted the world, far more than she was ever told, she feels that it's the least she can do.
