Gizmo was born and raised in Brightwitch and as a teen saw what The Collapse did to the town, and how The Adventurer's Guild took over. He offered to join them right away as their archivist, and Faethyra couldn't deny him despite his young age - he had the will to work, and the organizational skills to make it happen. On top of that he had an eye for others who could be as good as he was, so she made him head archivist as well.

Gadget, Gizmo's wolf, came later. After an incident where someone broke into the archives they figured extra protection was needed and each archivist was assigned an animal to help protect them. Gizmo chose Gadget, and the pair have been together ever since.
