The stories say that Yiva was the first dissenter from The Crystal River Academy, the mage who disagreed with the school's teaching of magic that they deemed 'safe' and nothing else, denying students a full range of learning if they were curious enough. So she used her powers to create Shroudcall and opened it up as a place for those who truly wished to acquire knowledge without being told they weren't allowed to know something.

Few doubt that the current Yiva is the same one as the city was founded so long in the past surely its creator could not be alive. Rumors say the title may just be passed from one person to another, or they range into the fact that she may be a necromancer or some other kind of immortal.
