Though Trizana now heads the Monk's Guild in Firebend, there was a time when she was younger and much more foolish. A time when she faced a monster alone and nearly died for her arrogance. And a time when a devil made a pact with her, offering that she could live if he could some day come back for a favor.

That favor was to put her in a position of political power. Trizana has no interest in politics, but by being able to shadow and observe her the devil gets to spy on what's happening and that's what it wants.

Part of the pact is that she cannot tell anyone about it or do anything to hinder its progress so she's forced to live a life she doesn't want until the devil decides it's done and lets her go.
