When Ami and Ri ran away from Ri's abusive father, Ami met Kansen. Kansen took them in and loved them, even though he could've been killed for being in a hybrid relationship. Ri, Ami's daughter, was hesitant about being close to Kansen because of her experience with her biological father. Still, she saw how her mother was happy and cared for by Kansen, and how Kansen loved Ri, so Ri became closer to him. Kansen loves Ri so much and admires her ambition and her drive to protect her family.

Kansen and Ami met at Kansen's job. Kansen had broken up with his ex and was devastated. Ami had escaped an abusive relationship, so she was relieved. They talked about their experiences and eventually fell in love with each other. Kansen took her and her daughter in, and they secretly married.
