Once the lady of a castle and partial ruler over a number of small holdings, Mara was chased from her home by the abused villagers one of her employees had wronged. She is haughty and a bit selfish, but nonetheless a capable worker and able to defend herself in a fight. She does not see the crime of the sheriff as being hers or her husband's, but agreed to come to Kingsreach with Bareris for a chance at a different life.

Shah: I am not impressed with Mara, but I will reserve my judgement until later.

Ua-Lo: Mara is good worker, and we admire her loyalty to Bareris. To leave your home is not easy, but to support someone you love makes choice simple. With this we can agree.
