"Maddie?"
"Maddie?"
Maddie shrugged, “I guess I can help,” Isalda stood in her way, “No, I’m not allowing it,”
“Is, you can’t stop me, either you go home, stay with Crash or come with us. It’s your choice,” Isalda slightly taken aback when Maddie used her old nickname, nodded, “I’ll come. If that’s fine with you guys?”
Nathan hesitated but kept silent.. "OK."
Esme considered the four of them critically. "I guess you girls can come too. But keep up and don't expect me to save your butts if you get in trouble."
"Chill," Luke said. "If Isalda's anywhere as capable as Maddie, there's nothing to worry about."
"Let's hope so." Esme reached deep into her pocket and pulled out a plastic back of rusty nails. She began to eat them, staring off at the far side of the valley. "I've pinpointed the home of the being that has Celina to somewhere in the Alaskan mountain range. We'll have to find some warmer clothes before we go."
Nathan looked back at Crash. "I don't suppose you have a secret stash of winter coats?"
Crash shook his head. "This is my only outfit."
"We can drop by a town and pick some stuff up on the way there," Esme said. "But we'll have to be quick and careful. The longer we hang around humans, the easier we are to track."
Nathan looked back at Esme. "Well, let's go then."
"We can't leave quite yet. We'll have to teleporting in a series of jumps, and I have to scout out a safe route for us. We'll head out this afternoon and get to Alaska by dawn tomorrow." She put away the nails and rose to her feet. "If you have anything to do to get ready, now's the time. I'll be back later." So saying, she disappeared with a faint thwip.
"She's gonna take some getting used to," Luke commented.
Nathan sighed. "No kidding." He rubbed the back of his head and stood up. "I'm gonna go wash off the deer skin by the lake." He grabbed the skin and walked away.
The lake was a bit of a hike down the slope, almost out of sight of the den. It was still and quiet, and the morning sun glinted cheerfully off the water. On the far bank, a large bird with a bright green crest stared at you, then took off and flew away over the trees. One of Crash's demonic neighbors, perhaps.
Nathan watched the bird go and sighed. He put the skin into a puddle of clear water and sat down. Esme's sentence still rang in his head. You'll just run away. Did she know anything? The chances were slim, but still… it was a painful reminder. Especially with how he had stupidly brought up the Brutes the other night.
(Brb, be back in a couple hours or so. When I return, do you want more time for peaceful reflection or shall I have something happen?)
(nah we can have something happen)
(Okie dokie, see ya later then ^^)
(can't stay long, but here ya go)
There suddenly came a sound from a yard or so away down the bank. Crouched by the water, taking a delicate drink, was the demoness, Hiss. She looked up and blinked at Nathan, then morphed into human form and walked over to join him.
"You look sad," she said curiously. "How come?"

Nathan looked up in surprise when he recognized Hiss's voice. He shrugged a shoulder. "Just thinking."
(Sorry for the wait! Unexpected things happened. You're probably asleep by now, but anyway)
"Just thinkin'?" Hiss sat down next to him, dabbling her toes in the water. "'Bout what?"
(Unexpected things?! Now I’m curious but I won’t bother you about it)
Maddie and Isalda sat togehter of the grass, having nothing to do but talk, about everything. Maddie learned about what happened to her and the village after she left.
He sighed deeply. "My home dimension and my family."
(Oh haha it was nothing much, we just had to go shopping, take a walk, eat supper, and prepare for company coming over, and I had only planned on the walk. Such are the daily thrills of a homebody XD)
Hiss tilted her head. "You miss them? I though you'd left to seek your fortune like me 'n Crash. Don't humans do that?"
"I left because I had no choice. And yes, I miss them, but there's nothing I can do about it."
(Thought it would be something more interesting then that… hehe)
(I'm terrible at backstories…)
(Hehe, same)
(a teensy bit better?)
