Jacklyn had just kicked her last soccer ball of the day into the goal. Wiping the sweat off of her forehead, Jackie went off to the locker rooms where she changed into her normal school clothes. She pulled on her high school sweatshirt, jeans, and black boots and headed to the cafeteria, hungry for lunch.
She looked up on her walk, watching the green puffs of smoke roll in overhead. Eye widening, she quickly ran to the entrance of the school in an attempt to escape whatever it was.
Trinity runs down to the cafeteria. Everyone is looking out the window. She pushes her way through the crowd and looks at the people outside, attempting to run from the fog, failing. They are all engulfed by the fog, when an announcement is said over the loud speaker, "From now on, the doors of the school will be locked and will not be opened for any reason." 'Trinity's eyes widen, she grabs all the food she can take from the cafeteria, "I have a feeling we'll be here a while."
Pounding on the cafeteria doors, Jackie tried to get the attention of someone. "Help, please let me in!" She looked back up at the fog, and silently stared as it took over the neighborhood around the school. If someone didn't let her in, she would be a goner to that fog.
Trinity hears the pounding at the doors, she ponders whether to open them. "Screw it." She opens the door and pulls Jackie in forcefully, slamming the doors shut right away.
Gasping in relief, Jackie immediately hugged whoever had pulled her in, which turned out to be Trinity, the rich cheerleader. "Thank you, thank you. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't let me in."
"Yeah, well they can't be opened again." She pauses. "Did you see what happened?"
Jackie shook her head. "All I know was that the fog was rolling in fast. I don't know what happened to those poor students who didn't make it in."
Trinity looks out the window again, she sees figures walking out of the fog. "Are they alive?" She smiles and takes a closer look. She gestures Jackie to look out the window.
Jackie grinned at the sight of the students, but it faltered quickly. "Do they look. . . normal to you?" She asked Trinity. She noticed the strange way they were walking, and as they got closer, their skin looked all wrong. Tinted green, perhaps, but that could've just been from the fog.
The Fog.
That's what must have caused this. Their abnormal walking, their strange appearances. What had happened to her classmates?
"Oh god…I've watched enough horror to know… Are they zombies?" They seemed to stumble rather than walk. "Quick lock the windows, doors, everything." Trinity turns to Jackie, "They aren't our classmates anymore." Trinity recognizes some of the people out there, if she'd been a little bit later she would be one of them.
Eyes widening, she saw truth in Trinity's claim. She locked the door that Trinity had luckily pulled her through, and helped all the kids in the cafeteria lock other doors and windows. She heard a scream from the middle of the room, from a kid who just spotted their best friend become a zombie outside. Jackie went to comfort them.
Trinity walks into the kitchen and comes back out with a butcher knife. "We need to be prepared to defend ourselves." Trinity knew in times of crisis she would need to become a leader. "Remember they aren't our classmates anymore. We don't know what they can do or how easily it spreads. Arm yourselves."
"My brother loves zombies and prepared for the zombie apocalypse every day of his life. Trust me, I know how to defend myself," Jackie said, standing up. "We should all learn how to defend ourselves. But remember, zombies are slow creatures. We should have time to think."
"To be fair, we didn't know zombies were real until a few minutes ago." Trinity says. "We can't be sure of their mannerisms, and we cannot base this off of a horror film." Trinity starts to hand out knives to everyone. "Jackie, let's go see if their are any adults left." She says gesturing to go to the office.
Jackie rolled her eyes at Trinity's 'know-it-all' self, but still followed her. (sorry, my character is very skeptical, you can just roll with it for now). Running to catch up with her, Jackie said, "Hey, if zombies didn't exist, why are they here now? And where did The Fog come from? It must be the source."
"That is what we are trying to find out. I know you probably don't like me, but that's not really an option, you're a natural leader and we need to be able to have eachother's backs. Whether we like it or not."
"At least we can agree on one thing. But you did just save my life, so I owe ya." Jackie continued walking down the silent halls. She was used to the quiet. Her house was always quiet. Her father always ignored her, and her mother was never home, always running around with someone new. She shook those thoughts from her head. If The Fog had continued to her own neighborhood, they were probably struck with the zomb-itis. She liked that word, because for some reason, it was fun to say. Jackie decided to dedicate that word for whatever the zombie fog was.
The sky grew dark and Clyde was hiding out in a closet when he saw a radio thing the teachers used before the mess occurred. He picked it up and patched himself through to the kitchen, knowing someone was smart enough to hide there. ’’Hello? oh god… please answer. I’m one of the few people not infected. help me-’’
Trinity felt terrible, she never tries to make people dislike her, but It just happens. Her train of thought is interrupted when they stumble upon the office, the desks look as though they were trying to get out in a hurry. There were papers everywhere, but no grown-up in site. "What happened here?" She asks.

Vaughn is sitting in a hallway in the school, in aware of what is happening. Music blasts through his headphones as he skims through a textbook. He glances up and around the empty hall and leans his head back against a locker.
Clyde let out a quiet whimper as he clutched the walkie talkie to his chest. He sat in silence, tears rolling down his cheeks, praying someone would pick up the line, ’’hello?’’ he started again.
Vaughn pushed to his feet, taking the headphones from his ears and walking down the hall. He was surprised that there seemed to be no one around, but it did make him feel more comfortable.
