(omg i’m so sorry, i didn’t see it)
Atlas narrowed her eyes at him, suspicious as ever. She was on an unknown planet, with strangers taking her somewhere she didn’t agree to, and her translator was apparently broken, as he didn’t understand a word she said. Fantastic.
Speaking of her translator, she poked at it, furrowing as the symbols representing her language flashed across the screen. Error, it said. Systems shutting down. Atlas sighed in frustration as the screen turned black, crossing her arms.
(it's okay!)
Adrian kept driving, silent now. Hopefully she would stay calm without his voice, as he could feel his powers slowly slipping away from him. Damn. He parked at the compound, opening the door for the girl. What was her name? He wondered. He bit his lip. "What is your name?" He asked. She wouldn't understand. Oh well.
Atlas looked at him, really looked at him. He seemed like he was nice enough, and he didn’t go out of his way to hurt her in any way. In fact, he made sure that she was comfortable, and didn’t press her by asking questions. She hesitated, looking at the ground for a second before meeting his eyes again. “At…las…” she forced the words out of her mouth with some difficulty, only guessing on what he said.
"Atlas?" He repeated, looking at her. He gestured to her. "Atlas." He said slowly. He gestured to himself. "Adrian." If they could get at least some sort of rudimentary communication going, that would be good. He smiled slightly, then beckoned to her to follow him, walking a few feet before glancing back at her to see if she was following.
Atlas paused for a moment before bounding up to Adrian, tugging on his sleeve to get his attention. “A…Adri…an…?” Sticking out her tounge, she focused on saying the strange words that she supposed was his name. “Adri… A…Adrian!” she said finally, eyes bright.
He looked at her. A smile flashed across his face for a moment. He nodded. "Yes. Adrian." he agreed, smiling. He gestured to her. "Atlas." he said again, smiling again. He paused for a moment, trying to figure out what to say next, if anything. He didn't know exactly what to do. She obviously didn't speak nor understand English, and he couldn't understand her language.
Atlas nodded, grinning for a quick second. As if she saw the gears turning in his head, she grabbed his hand and put it on where her translator was, the cracked screen crumbling slightly. She then met his eyes, and gestured to the translator, miming a tool fixing it, hoping he understood.
Adrian frowned slightly, and picked up the translator, glancing at her for permission. He took a deep breath, turning it over. "I'm not sure I can fix it." he said. "I'm not very tech savvy. Tony might be able to fix it, but he has enough on his plate." he sighed. He wasn't quite sure why he was even speaking, she most likely would have no idea what he meant.
Adrian’s words passed though Atlas’ left ear and out the other. But by his expression she could tell he meant well. Pushing the translator towards Adrian’s chest, she gave him a quick smile before bounding off again, this time pushing open the double doors that lead into a simple room.
A simple room that was filled with people, staring at her with huge eyes. Abort mission, abort mission!
Adrian followed her quickly. "Atlas!" he called. He sucked in a breath, and put a hand on her shoulder gently. "Hey, guys." he said with a nervous smile. "This is the girl that crash landed. Her name is Atlas." he said, looking around at the group cautiously. He really, really hoped Atlas didn't take off running.
Atlas tucked herself into Adrian’s arm as the group of agents waited for a second before nodding and returning to whatever they were doing, fingers furiously tapping on thin black devices. Their eyes on her made her uncomfortable, so she tried to ignore them. Atlas looked up at Adrian, a hand tightly clutching his sleeve.
Adrian gave her what he hoped was a reassuring smile. "Come." He said, gently pulling her along with him as he headed to one of the workshops. He set the translator down. "FRIDAY, analyze this for me, please?" He said.
"Right away, Adrian." FRIDAY replied.
Seeing all the gadgets laying about, a mischievous smile slipped on her face, and she let go of Adrian, walking over to the bench. Picking up what appeared to be some sort of little drone, she pressed a few of its buttons, lighting up when it started to whir.
FRIDAY scanned the device, computing silently for a moment before speaking. “It appears to be a translator device, originating from the planet Infiniti.”
Hearing the name Infiniti, Atlas dropped the drone, frozen in place. The name sounded familiar, but she had no idea why. The feeling that something bad happened crept up her spine, and she shivered.
Adrian nodded. "Alright. Can we fix it?" He heard the drone crash to the ground, and looked at Atlas. "You alright?" He asked her, then remembered she wouldn't understand.
(bump)
(so sorry about the wait)
“Yes, Adrian. The repairs will take about two days due to the damage the translator has experienced.” FRIDAY said, before lowering the tools needed to fix it.
Assuming Adrian was speaking about the drone, she whispered a “Sorry” in Infinitian before using her powers to lift the machine up and place it on the bench absentmindedly. Still lost in thought, she searched her mind for any clue about who she is or why she remembered the word Infiniti. But all she found was a void of nothingness, not a single thing why she remembered her name but not her story.
(its fine!)
Adrian nodded. "Alright. Thank you, FRIDAY." He looked over at Atlas, trying to figure out how to tell her that the translator would be fixed. He frowned slightly, then pointed st the translator, then the sun, then two fingers, then smiled. Hopefully he would communicate what he meant, and didn't look like a madman.
Atlas quirked an eyebrow, trying to figure out what was going on. Was he going to throw the translator into the sun? No, that wasn’t it… Maybe the sun was needed to fix the device, but the lab looked advanced enough. She shrugged at Adrian, looking confused as ever.
Adrian sighed, and bit his lip. Nope. That's not working. He thought for a minute. Then he pointed at the translator, and held up two fingers, then pretended to sleep, then wake up. Would that work? Two nights?
Two rotations of their cycle? Made sense enough. Atlas nodded, giving him a thumbs up to show she understood. Opening her mouth, she was about to try to tell him something when the door opened, revealing Tony typing furiously on the tablet. “Adrian, have you seen-“ he looked up, stopping mid sentence when he saw Atlas. “-the girl.”
Startled by the new arrival, Atlas hid behind Adrian, gripping his shirt tightly as she peeked out behind him
Adrian jumped slightly, and nodded. "Yeah, she's right here." He replied, glancing back at Atlas, then back at Tony. "Why, what do you need?" He asked. "Also, FRIDAY is fixing her translator so we can talk to her." He added, looking over at Tony.
“We need to run some tests to make sure everything alright with her,” Tony glanced with a frown at the destroyed drone. “Good. Why don’t you take her to Nat’s room for some more… casual clothes then meet me at Bruce’s lab?” His eyes flickered over her scuffed armor, and Atlas shrank back.
She didn’t quite know what to think of the stranger, but if Adrian felt comfortable with him, she guessed she could too.
Adrian nodded. "Alright." He looked at Atlas. "Atlas, follow me." He said with a small smile, starting to walk. He headed through the hallways towards Nat's room. It might be difficult to find clothes of hers that would fit Atlas, but they would make it work somehow.
Atlas followed him, a hand on his arm as she stared in wonder on how big the tower was. What looked like expensive art pieces lined the walls and each of the rooms and hallways had a multitude of doors. She wasn’t aware they had arrived until they were at a door marked with a black widow symbol.
