Bane nodded his head as he listened to the teen’s stories. He didn’t have much story of to tell. He was, after all, an adult. His childhood memories were blurred, considering they were unpleasant. “I’m sorry for your loss.” He stared at Kas for a moment before shifting them into a comfortable position. He kept an eye on Jasper in case she tried to murder him. “There. That might be a little better. Your knee might be swollen for a little.” He perked his head up when he heard small footsteps angrily stomp down the stairs. Dammit. Frenchie finally decided to confront him. He moved his head back and forth as she talked, mocking her slightly. “Listen, small fry, I wasn’t backing out of confrontation. I was trying not to get shot.” He gestured to Kas and Jasper. “And I was tending to a few teenagers. You could have helped. This one.” He pointed to Kas. “Had a dislocated knee. I’m not going to wait for you to muster up the courage to confront me while someone is in pain.” Bane scoffed at Frenchie, turning his attention back to the kid. “Are you hurt?” He asked Jasper.
She shook her head at Bane, just as she was about to say something her stomach growled at her violently.
She just tried to ignore it, though it was loud enough to be heard. Why now of all times…well, maybe they wouldn't acknowledge it if she didn't. That or..they would get them food which she desperately needed.
She just had herself as she looked at him, though it was a loose hold so that she could reach her weapon if she needed too. She visibly tensed up as she noticed frenchie coming down the Stairs towards them. She moved to sit down next to Kas.
Kas looked up when he heard footsteps, still pretty out of it despite the water. They made out the silhouette of a woman, but couldn't really distinguish her other features. He curled in on himself a bit, visibly uncomfortable, but it wasn't like anyone could really do anything to make their leg hurt less. "Mmnh… I'll be fine, I always am…" He murmured weakly. "I'll be back to walking normally in no time, I'm sure. I'm… perfectly fine." They swallowed another wave of nausea and curled up tighter, looking very pale.
Frenchie threw her hands up in frustration. "Ten minutes ago I was the only living soul in this city. Now suddenly there's five of us like where the hell did y'all come from." She sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. She stepped closer to get a better look at the two new faces. "When's the last time either of you actually ate something? You're younger so your bodies use up fat stores and energy faster because your metabolism is faster. Essentially meaning you starve faster than the average adult. That knee ain't gonna make itself any better if your body doesn't have the energy to repair it." She brushed a couple of loose strands of hair behind her ear, scrutinizing the two before turning on her heel to head back up the stairs. "I'd say don't move but I don't think you'll be doing much of that anyway. I have a patient to go retrieve. If we're all gonna be stuck here, might as well do it together."
(Bump)
(Sorry, I was moving)
Bane rolled his eyes, moving his hand in a manor to shoo Frenchie off. “And ten minutes ago, I was nearly killed by zombies. Pick your goddamn battles.” He smiled, turning his attention back to the teenagers. “Don’t either of you move. We don’t need more accidents.” He sighed, rummaging through his bag and pulled out a sticker. He placed it on Kaz’s nose. “Don’t move until I take that off.” Bane looked back over to Frenchie and shrugged. “I don’t have food for either of them, so I’m no help in that department. That’s all you, sweetheart.” He waved Frenchie off as she moved back up the stairs. “Have fun grabbing your patient!”
Kas blinked a couple times when Bane put a sticker on their nose, clearly confused, and then touched it with his finger. He scoffed when he finally seemed to realize what had happened and pulled the sticker off of their nose. "M'not five…" They mumbled, huffing. He stuck the sticker on his chest instead and scrunched up their nose, trying to get rid of the lingering feeling of it. He sighed softly once he was settled again, and they leaned back against the wall to relax for the time being.
Jasper stayed near Kas, it was very clear she wasn't moving until he did. Once they were a little bit away from the older people she leaned over to Kas and whispered.
"Do you think we can trust them…?" She still doubted them even though they had helped with Kas's knee.
They could always be doing something nice to trick them, and then end up being evil people in the end.
Though they really needed food…they wouldn't last much longer without it.
She watched as the two of them went upstairs, wondering.
Kas shrugged, running their fingers through their hair. "I dunno. Who knows, right?" He sighed softly. "But we're desperate, okay? We're starving and injured and we're gonna die without them anyway. If we leave, we're dead. They might kill us, but we're not any worse off by staying." They watched Bane and Frenchie leave with a soft hum. "Look, I don't like this any more than you do, but we don't really have a choice."
(been a while, so my apologies)
Cherry felt desperately alarmed for the child, something she never thought would happen, and yet here she was. I mean, what more could she do? Other than feed him and bandage him? The only thing left to do was to let him rest. It didn't help that she had no one to help her with the kid, as Angela was also wounded herself and Cherry would rather not disturb her if she could do things herself.
"Alright, Pip…" She whispered, mostly to herself. "I'm going to lift you and-" She hesitated. How exactly was she going to do that?
Cherry stared at Pip as he seemed to fade in and out. It was only natural that a kid with a fever this bad would be completely out of it.
Cherry looked to Angela for help, but then turned back to Pip and decided she was going to be the one to do it. She gently lifted Pip, even though she knew his body would protest and feel aches all over. It's what happened to her when she had a fever and all she would want to do was lie down and fall into a deep sleep.
Cherry laid his head against her shoulder and cradled him in her arms. She then grabbed the can of beans and lifted it up to Pip's mouth.
"Tell me when to stop and I'll stop," She said, though she wasn't sure if Pip could respond even if he wanted to, so she took it slow and tilted the can, giving him small portions until he chewed and swallowed it.
As she did so, Cherry also felt the repercussions of staying out in the rain fall on her. She was starting to feel a little more tired, her head foggy. If it hadn't been that bad before, it definitely was starting to take a toll on her now.
At this point, little to none of what Cherry said was intelligible to Peregrine. He was vaguely able to make out that her mouth was moving, but his ears were ringing pretty badly, and everything she was saying just seemed like garbled nonsense. Nonetheless, he whined softly when he was picked up, evidently not fond of it, but in no state to really fight back.
He looked almost as terrible as he felt. His cheeks were pretty well flushed with fever at this point, as well as his nose and ears, and the rest of his skin was definitely paler than it should have been. Typically, a toddler with a high fever and infected wounds like this would be taken to the hospital immediately, but they didn't have that luxury in an apocalypse.
Suddenly, he tasted something. He wasn't familiar with the flavor, and he wasn't a huge fan of the texture, but any food was good food when he was this hungry, and his body wasn't going to deny something like this. Chewing was difficult, and not entirely pleasant, but Pip managed it anyways. He put all his energy into eating, and thus couldn't really do much else. Unable to speak, it was only clear that he was done eating when he was too tired to chew anymore.

Once finished with the can of beans, Cherry put them down and cleaned Pip's face a bit. She rocked Pip back and forth while the food went down, keeping him close to her, arms wrapped around him. She wondered if the warmth helped, they didn't have many blankets, but she'd lend the one she had been using these past few days to Pip. It wasn't much but it was better than nothing.
"I'm going to put you down so you can rest now," Cherry said, even though she was sure that at this point the poor kid wasn't listening.
With that she laid him back down on the bed and got up, searching for the blanket she had used prior. When she found it, she brought it back to Pip and covered him, tucking the edges under his body so the warmth wouldn't escape when and if he moved.
After that, she sat down on the bed beside Pip. She'd wait there to see what the next move was if they were moving at all. She wondered if Jesse had planned to strike a few more places before they looked for a more permanent place to stay.
A place to stay and rest sounded so good to Cherry, her body yearned for a nice comfortable bed. Who even knew if that would ever happen again? She sure hoped it would, it was one of the few things keeping her going. She didn't have much at this point and clung to any small chance of hope.
"Okay…" She spoke softly, staying near to him as she was worried about what would happened next. She wished that she could have found something for them to eat a while back but..at least now Kaz's knee was better and he could wall better.
Her stomach growled at her again and she felt embarrassed by it.
"Your right.."
