Finally, Cade shook off the nightmares that were haunting him. His breaths were shallow and his eyes were watery. He used a free hand to wipe the tears off his cheeks and regain his usual brooding look before he dropped to the ground, careful not to show that he had been crying.
Phoebe startled as someone dropped down in front of her, but quickly regained her senses and offered him a hand up.
Cade shook his head at the girl he didn't recognize, standing up by himself. He didn't trust her yet. Hell, he didn't trust anyone here except maybe Nykidia.
Phoebe shrugged and took her hand back, looking around. “You guys are being awfully loud out here. What even happened?”
"That's a good question. Maybe ask the daughter of the psychopathic queen or her creepy friend." Cade grumbled, his voice still sounding a little shocked.
Grimacing slightly, Phoebe stepped a bit to the side of Cade to call up into the tree. “Virgil!” She hissed. “The hell was that?”
"I wanna go home." He quietly whimpered again. No, you can't go home. Your best friends mother killed them she yelled Marrin.
“Helpful,” she drawled, stepping back to stand in front of Cade again. “So. That’s that.”
Remember, he is still stuck in his fear…//
//yeah, I know. But Phoebe doesn’t and she’s kind of a jerk anyways
Virgil whimpered like a kicked puppy for a few minutes, after a while, he snapped out of it and released his hold on the surrounding people. He climbed down from the tree, a harsh glint in his eyes.
“Nice of you to join us,” Phoebe said flippantly. She’d sat down at the base of a tree and was now playing with a dagger she had.
"Fuck off." Virgil said, back to his pessimistic self now that he had gotten sleep. He pulled a large scythe from the scabbard on his back and began to polish it.
Cade got ready to take out his knife in case someone tried to attack him. "What the hell was that?! Did no one else see-" He choked up a bit, then decided to just stop talking.
Nykidia sighed. "Phoebe!!! Please come get your terrified friend. Oh! And bring the other one too!" Nykidia yelled hoping the others were near by.
“Stop yelling,” Phoebe grumbled. “You’ll get us all killed.” She did walk over of the tree where Scarlet was though, looking up into the tree impatiently.
(I thought Scarlet was on the ground because night carried her down.) "I know but I didn't know where you were and how else am I supposed to get this girl to calm the frick down." Nykidia said gesturing to Scarlet.
//oh, is she? Disregard the previous comment then
Phoebe sighed and knelt in front of Scarlet. “Hey, Scar. Snap out of it. No one’s dying - as of the moemnt. Not Virgil, not, uh, whoever else you actually care about.” At least, I think so. Hopefully.
Scarlet shook herself, turning away. “We— Virgil— we need to go.” She turned towards her friend, looping her arm through his protectively. She would comfort him later when these strangers weren’t watching.
"And where are you going to go?" Nykidia taunted. "If what you say if true than you wouldn't want to go back to the castle and nobody will want to take you in. They'd be afraid that you would kill and eat them. And even if they didn't think that they wouldn't let you in. These people are trained with fear to not take in people that the queen hates. You have nowhere to go. You. Are Alone." Nykidia repeated.
Scarlet set her jaw, not taking the bait. “It’s not like you’re any better.”, was all she replied, beginning to pull Virgil away.
"Hold up," Cade butted in. "You can't just leave after…that. I can't be the only person that saw….chaos."
