John took Rowan hand, smiling lightly. “Ready?” He asked gently, prepping himself. Mentally, at least, preparing for the drain, the energy this would sap from him. How he’d have to tip toe around the disease before striking it like an asp—that had become John’s strategy. Sometimes it felt like he was fighting a sentient being, with how careful he had to be, but he knew that was silly.
Rowan smiled, leaning into Alvor and prepping himself. “Ready,” He confirmed with a nod. Maybe today would be the day. Alvor had told him his fathers could heal him, and they were healing him. Everything would be okay, they were so close… only a little bit longer, and Rowan would probably be moving his hand in no time.
John closed his eyes and sent his magic in, simply brushing on the outer edges of the disease. It had shrank significantly the past week, so much so that he believed he found what he assumed to be it’s ‘core’. John brushed against it, feeling the disease push back against his magic like magnets repelling against another magnet. He let his magic hover, waiting cautiously before he took his chance. No hesitation, John couldn’t afford to hesitate. His magic speared in, shooting straight for that ‘core’. It was almost unbearable as he speared through it, but something odd happened. As if a haze was lifted, the disease seemed to disappear from Rowan’s hand. Just like that, and John pulled back out with heavy breaths. He out his weight on Halo, panting but okay.
Rowan felt John magic, feeling pain grow in his hand. Then, like a firecracker had gone off inside his hand, Rowan let out a strangled yelp as pain flared. He clung to Alvor, tears forming in his eyes at the intensity of the pain. It usually wasn’t this bad, but today seemed a bit different. In the blink of an eyes, Rowan felt the pain wink away like extinguishing a candle. He sagged against Alvor, tired but… Rowan moved his hand, stretching out his fingers. There wasn’t an ounce of pain. He clenched his hand into a fist in disbelief, but lo and behold, he could move it without pain. Rowan’s face lit up with a smile. He couldn’t believe it, it felt like a dream. His chest felt a little tight, but Rowan hardly cared. He could move his hand again.
