She shook her head at him, "y-your…n-not t-that bad.." she held her arm, "i-i-im n-not a m-mutant… T-the e-experiment started w-way l-long ago…and w-when t-the s-screamers cae..t-they l-left me to r-rot…"

(What?)
(It was just funny)
Gus frowned. He didn't want to pry. He could easily see the memories were upsetting. But at this point, if he was going to find out the truth, he had no choice. "So…..then if you ain't a mutant, what's th' deal exactly? Can you….show me whatever you did that made Jez think you were dangerous?"
she let out a sigh, getting really close to him without touching him. she pulled down her sleeve and moved the threads revealing the slash marks and cuts on her wrists but some of the wounds werent healed completely, she stared intensely at her wrist seeming to be in intense focus as a small stream of tar substance came out of her skin, and sharpened before going back into her cuts, she breathed heavily. "Its n-not t-toxic o-on touch..l-like the s-screamer s-stuff.."
Jez blinks "uh…..I'd tell.her that bud. She seems awfully close to.you" he says with a small chuckle, finding it slightly amusing. And obviously getting the wrong idea about June and him.
Gus stifled a sharp intake of breath. He'd never seen anything like this before, and he'd be lying if it didn't freak him out a bit. Choosing his next words carefully, he looked up at Jasper. "Do you….use this much? Can you control it?"
"n-no, i-i c-cant…s-sometimes i-it a-acts o-on itself o-own t-though…l-like w-with h-him…h-he d-d-didn't..g-give m-me a c-chance to e-explain.." she sniffled, moving back into her corner.
Gus nodded. "I know. You spooked him. Jasper….has that stuff ever tried t' hurt somebody? D'you think it could, if it wanted to?" He spoke slowly. "This is real important. Be honest, now. If you say yes, you ain't gonna get in trouble."
she bit her lip, this is why she tried to tell Jez earlier, so this wouldn't happen but she couldn't get the words out. stupid stupid jasper… she looked down at her wrists before looking away. "i-i d-didnt m-mean too.." she sniffled, she let gus talk before nodding to what he said after a good bit. she eyed where the entrance to the roof area was.
(I'm dumb lol, did she answer his question?)
(lol she answered it by nodding)
(okay gotcha xD)
Gus watched her carefully, then took a deep breath. "Okay. Could you, uh…..tell me more about that?" There was no doubt in his mind, if Jasper's condition really was dangerous, he wanted to know as much as possible about it.
she noticed how his eyes watched her, it wasnt the same way as Jez but it was still similar. she sighed, "i-i dont k-know much a-about it m-myself…s-so…a-all i k-know i-is it reacts s-strongly w-when i g-get harmed, or when ii g-get really e-emotional…b-but i cant c-control i-it, b-barely h-hold it back s-sometimes.." she just wanted to get this overwith.
Gus took off his hat and scratched the back of his head, thinking hard. "Welp…..yeah that ain't good."
How to handle this? His logical half, as well as the side that trusted Jez, said it would be smartest to avoid Jasper from now on. If she had a destructive power she couldn't control, that could spell doom for all of them. And he knew nothing of stuff like this—how could he possibly hope to help her?
But despite the solidity of these reasons, Gus was still torn. A very large, stubborn part of him felt sorry for Jasper. He saw her as just a scared young girl with no one to protect her except whatever unstable monster lived under her skin. Try as he might to be rational, he couldn't just abandon her like this. He knew Jez would throw a fit, but they could handle that later. For now, all he wanted to do was make Jasper feel safe.
"Listen," he said eventually. "Maybe it ain't smart, but I wanna give you another chance. What if….what if we tried to help you learn how t' control the stuff so's it don't hurt anybody? Right now we don't know what it might do, but maybe if you keep tryin', you can get a saddle on it and show it who's boss." He peeked at her. "D'you think that could happen someday?"
she sighed silently, figuring she might end up on her own again after she had basically told them she was an unstable weapon basically, and she hated it. she hated that she would have to be alone, she hated her life she hated the tar in her body, she hated it all and wanted to cry again but she had already cried so much her eyes felt so dry.
"t-tried..to help me learn it..?" she looked up at gus a little bit hopeful, "y-you t-think i could do it? like really..?" she did want to try but it always resisted her when she did try.
Gus tried for a little smile. "I mean, I never thought I'd learn how t' whistle or play banjo or train ma's pigs t' steal her laundry, but I did. Just took time. We'll have to be kinda careful until you figure it out, but think about it like this, someday maybe you could use your power to protect us 'nstead of the other way 'round. Wouldn't that be great?"
she nodded intensely at his last statement, "Y-yeah…i-i really h-hope so…"
Lordy, Gus thought. I sure hope I'm doin' the right thing here. But he refused to let his worries show. He gave Jasper a more confident smile and held out his hand. "Let's shake on it, then. You start workin' on controllin' that tarry stuff, and I'll make sure the others give you a fightin' chance, like it or lump it. Deal?"
she even smiled slightly, grabbing his hand and shaking it with hers. "Deal.."
"Alright then." Gus put his hat back on and stood, brushing himself off. "You sight tight here with June, okay? I'm gonna go tell Jez th' plan. He's upset now, but he'll come around." He said this with a bit more confidence than he felt.
She nodded,d moving to sit closer to June then she was earlier, though she doubt Jez would come around so easily.
Once he was sure Jasper was comfortable with June, Gus took a deep breath and stepped back outside, to where Jez was presumably still waiting with Darius. "Jez? We gotta talk."
Jez turns to Gus, his brows creasing in concern, and hesitation.
He takes a small breath it doesn't sound like he believes me he thought.
He swallows, looking Gus over for wounds of any sort.
Finding nothing visible, Jez decided to respond after a few second. "Kay" he nods, though not moving. He wasn't about to go back in there.
(Hohoho I have a plan >:)
