She mistook Alex for a Galra. Zanna's arm prosthetic crackled with quintessence, "I said stay away!"
"Easy. Listen. It's me, it's Alex. Calm down." he kneels in front of her, gently raising his hands.
Zanna's vision flashed showing Alex for a split second before returning back to the Galra. Her arm relaxed and she curled into a ball. Tears were spilling down her face. She shakily said, "How? How do I know you aren't another one of her tricks?!"
"I'm not, I'm real, I promise. You're safe." He eases gently. "I'm right here." he says softly.
Zanna looked up at him. She looked him right in the eye and said, "Prove it."
"How do you want me to prove it?" he asks gently.
"T-tell me something she wouldn't know," Zanna said her vision beginning to clear. She still didn't trust it yet.
He looks down, "I had a sister, and a little brother. My brother was so full of himself I always swore he was going to get himself killed. My little sister… she didn't deserve to die. I lost my planet six years ago. Not to the galra but to their own people… I was the only one to survive." He whispers.
Zanna's vision cleared and she hugged Alex, "I'm so sorry. I-I didn't know."
He starts at the hug, but hugs her back, clearing his throat. "Not that it matters…" he mutters. "But we're a team now, gotta stick together, right?" he asks.
"Yeah," Zanna said, "We're a team."
He pulls away, giving her a slightly reassuring smile before clearing his throat. "You okay now?"
Zanna nods, "Yeah. I think the event from earlier triggered it."
He nods, "If you want, I had flashbacks after I escaped them. If you want help… controlling them, I'm more than glad to help."
Zanna looked down at the floor, "That would be great. Though I don't think they'll ever go away."
"They never do." He answers softly.
"Why don't they?" Zanna asked, "That doesn't seem right."
"Once something happens… if it's good enough, bad enough… it'll stay with you…" he says after a minute.
Zanna slumped over, "So everything's going to stick with me. I can't recall one good thing from my past, well except the five or six planets I helped free."
"Well, we'll make more good memories… Somehow."
"Somehow," Zanna laughed a little, "In this universe of war."
He chuckles, nodding. "Yep." he sighs softly.
"Yeah," Zanna sighed. Her eyes closed and she leaned against the wall. Her breathing steadied as she fell asleep.
Alex smiles slightly, grabbing a few blankets and sets them down, picking her up and crying her to the bed attached to the walls, draping a blanket over her before walking to the pilots seat and curling up under a blanket.
Gwen bit her lip to keep herself from ruining the moment these two were having. She stood in the corner, not really wanting to sleep.
