I got an idea to turn nimue into a legitimate traitor besides mind control
but it would require me to flirt with my own characters and idk how I feel about that

"Cal?" where was he going? He was afraid of the dark. Marya grabbed her knife and went after him, dropping a pebble every few seconds so she could find her way back. "Cal! Nimue!"

He stepped out from behind a tree, blue magic swirling around his fingertips. His hair was the exact same shade. He smiled pleasantly, as if greeting a friend. “Cal. What a nice surprise. Go ahead, talk. Don’t scream though.”

Cal heard Marya's voice and opened his mouth to answer, but he felt some invisible force clamp his mouth shut. An odd feeling washed over him, as if he didn't have control over his own thoughts. Finally words came out, but they weren't his.

"Leave Marya." Cal called back. Don't listen to me. They aren't my words. He wanted to call back, but he couldn't. He had no control over himself.

Convince her, Kirin whispered in Cal’s mind. Or I’ll kill her and everyone at your camp.
Well, I probably wouldn’t. But he doesn’t need to know that.

"What's going on?" she demanded, standing in front of him. Marya pulled out her knife, "What do you see? Are you okay? What. Is. Going. On. Tell me!"

From behind Marya where he’d slipped into the shadows again, Kirin raised his eyebrows, as if to say, go on.

"Nothing. I don't see anything. . . I just need to check." Cal explained, his words coming out as mumbles as he fought back against Kirin's control. He pushed her away and walked backwards. "Go. Go with Nimue."
Don't hurt her, please.

If she listens.

Ingrid knew what she had to do. If she wanted to use the wish, she need to leave tonight. There was no time to change clothes because someone would question her. Ingrid walked down the castle halls to the armoury.
"Open the door," she said when she got to the door. The guards opened the doors and she walked inside. Shelves were stacked with shields and swords and other weapons. Ingrid grabbed a shield and a sword and quietly exited out the back door to the train facility. She ran across the field and entered the forest. No one saw her leave.

Fine. Take her back to the camp then come back. I’ll be watching.

"Check what? Cal…you need to tell me what the hell is going on." Marya insisted, holding up her knife. "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!"

Cal stumbled back. "Nothing. We can go back. I just needed to check on the forest. . ." He explained, stepping back towards her. "It's okay, Marya."
Fine. I'll be back in three days.

"But why?" Marya's gaze was sharp. "Cal. You need to tell me the truth. What's wrong?" she leaned in, looking into his blue eyes. "Tell me."
