Raine pulled an earbud out of his ear when he heard the sound of the door closed. He sat up from his bed on one elbow but didn't see anything different in the room except for a suitcase on the floor that definitely wasn't his. Huh. He had missed his new roommate. He sighed and sat up, swinging his legs so that he was sitting in the opening of his bunk, the jumped down onto the floor. It was probably smart to at least leave his room and see people and things. Maybe he could explore the campus.
Raine opened the door to his dorm and saw a boy that was shorter than him with curly hair walking ahead of him. That could have been his new roommate, but he didn't care enough to find out. Instead, he put his headphones back in and walked in the opposite direction.
(Are the buildings co-ed and the rooms are just gendered? Or are they in separate buildings? If they are in separate buildings I can change this.)
Cat walked down the hall holding a backpack and a trash bag full of clothes and old school supplies. She has a paper in her free hand over a notebook. She was mouthing her room number. She saw a few boys walking her way and she smiled at them but didn't make any move to interact. She stopped in front of a door and opened it. She almost gaped at the room but stopped herself last minute. It was bigger than she expected. She dumped her bag by one of the desks. Her door was still wide open.
(I imagined it being the same building but girls and boys live on opposite sides)
(Makes sense. Would they still be all on the same floor like you said before?)
Ivy walked down the corridor excitedly, a big grin on her face, carrying only two bags of what she thought were “the essentials”. She stared at all the doors in the hall and watched a girl walk into one of them. She could see that the room number was the same one she was supposed to be in. ‘That must be my roommate!’ She mumbled enthusiastically to herself and quickened her pace towards the door until she reached it. She opened it with her key she was given when checking into the dorms and saw the girl standing inside of the large entry room.

Yeah, I'd say so. I think there'd be some kind of hall between the boy's and girl's side that's door is locked at night. I don't know how to describe it so here's a link (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DvS0CVcXQAAtFQY.jpg) to what I'm thinking (just not over a road).

Cat turned around quickly when she heard the door. She calmed down when they saw the girl. She relaxed and took out her pencil and notepad. ”Hey we must be roommates! I’m Caterina but you can call me Cat” she wrote quickly. It was slightly messy but not that bad. She sat down on the desk chair crossing her legs.
So far, the science building was Elliot's favourite, but he was probably biased. He was on his way to the cafeteria, even though he'd be going there later, he wanted to check it out when it wasn't overflowing with people. Maybe get some food, too. He opened the door, and checked shoulders with someone leaving. "Oh, sorry!" he said, then walked into the cafeteria.
Mara pulled her hair from her face, standing in the door of the cafeteria. She took a deep breath, looking out at all the people in there. She took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and walked into the cafeteria. She move quickly, purposefully, hoping that someone would approach her, but not, at the same time.
Portia had already unpacked in her room, carefully arranging her photographs and her various blankets to make sure she felt at home. Now, she was in the cafeteria, carefully balancing her tray as she made her way towards a table in the back. She didn’t notice Mara as she walked, and accidentally bumped into her, dropping her tray on the floor with a loud clatter. “Oh, fiddlesticks!” Portia cursed. “I’m sorry.”
"Oh, you're fine!" Mara had initially been about to curse the person out, but this girl had actually apologized, so she was fine. Not many people would do that. "Here, I can help you clean up!" She knelt down to help.
Mara had gotten to the dorms early, and so she hadn't gotten a chance to see who her roommate was. Thus, she didn't recognize the girl in front of her. Mara hadn't really arranged her stuff, just left it in a corner by her bed. She was just lazy that way. And hungry, of course.
"Oh, thank you so much!" Portia said gratefully as she sopped up the mess with a wad of napkins. Dumping the remainder of the food in the trash, she quickly rubbed sanitizer on her hands and offered one up for a shake. "My name is Portia Gate, what is yours?" she asked, a small smile on her face. Maybe she might actually make a friend at this new school.
"Of course!" Mara glanced at the girl's hand for a second before grinning. She wiped the food off on a napkin and then shook her hand. "Mara. Mara Aelius."
"Well, it's nice to meet you, Mara!" Portia said, surprised that the other girl had actually accepted her offer of a handshake. "Wait a second, that name sounds familiar… are you in room 278 by any chance?" she asked, tilting her head.
(we can change the number, it's just the first one that popped into mind lol)
Cat turned around quickly when she heard the door. She calmed down when they saw the girl. She relaxed and took out her pencil and notepad. ”Hey we must be roommates! I’m Caterina but you can call me Cat” she wrote quickly. It was slightly messy but not that bad. She sat down on the desk chair crossing her legs.
Ivy tilted her head, a bit confused about the note, but took it anyways then read it. Afterwards, still a bit confused she turned towards Cat, and wrote on the notepad a bit under cat's writing. "I'm Ivy! Can you still hear me talk, or will we be talking like this haha? I don't mind either way :)" Then passed the note onto Cat
Cat read the note and wrote under it as well. ”I can hear but I can’t speak right now. It’s only temporary tho” she wrote before handing her the notepad. She bit her lip slightly but still smiled. She stood up again and started unpacking her clothes that where crammed in a trash bag.
(That number works fine XD)
"I- yeah, that's right," Mara said, blinking. "How do you know that?" She looked at the girl, before realizing. "Oh! We're roommates, aren't we?"
“I guess we are! Oh thank goodness, I was so worried about who my roommate was going to be before I got here,” Portia admitted in a rush. “It’s good to know that I’ll have you as a roomie.” Immediately after she said that, her mind began racing. Was that too far? Was Mara going to think that she was super weird and clingy?
(Do we want there to be some kind of "bad guy" that causes the explosion or pulls the fire alarm or something? Or were you thinking something else?)
"I know, right? At least of all the people I room with, I'm with you. You might be the one person who actually apologizes after you bump into someone." Mara brushed her hair from her face, before grinning ruefully. "Sorry about my mess. I'm really bad at unpacking.:
Portia smiled and let the tension dissipate from her shoulders. “No, it’s fine! Don’t worry about it, truly.” She gestured to the food line that was beginning to snake around the cafeteria. “Do you want to get in line before it gets too long? If you don’t, I mean, that’s fine.”
"Nah. I don't usually eat until like midnight." Mara shrugged. "It's not really that healthy, but I've kind of given up caring. So, if you hear me digging through the dorm fridge in the middle of the night, just go back to sleep."
(Do we want there to be some kind of "bad guy" that causes the explosion or pulls the fire alarm or something? Or were you thinking something else?)
(Yeah, we want something like that, probably just pulls the fire alarm and the teachers brush it off as some kid pulling a prank)
Portia nodded slowly. “Whatever floats your boat, I suppose!” she said. “Would you like to come back to the room with me? I have a few more things that need to be put in their proper place, and it would be nice if I had company,” Portia said, blushing a bit. She was never this forward with people she had just, but something about Mara gave Portia good vibes.
Ivy nodded her head in understanding and put the notepad down. She watched her new roomate turn around and start unpacking her bags and figured she should do the same. As she started to take her things out of her bag, she realized just how nice their room actually was.
Ivy thought It was a bit awkward as they were unpacking because of the silence, but she just tried to ignore it.
