Fuck… She rolled her eyes. "Please. You wish." She walked off, willing her face to return to a normal color before he truly questioned anything.
Fuck… She rolled her eyes. "Please. You wish." She walked off, willing her face to return to a normal color before he truly questioned anything.
He laughed and trailed off to his bed wordlessly. It was late enough that sleep was expected at this point.
She glanced out the window. The sun was just starting to set. She looked around quickly. No one. Good. She slipped out the door and hopped up silently onto a garbage can before hoisting herself onto the roof of the diner. She sat and watched the sun start to dip below the horizon with a sigh. "God I wish I could tell him. But no, why would I do that?" She drew her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs.
Nate laid in bed, pushed against the wall so she could come when she wanted to if she so chose. He wheeled a metal toy matchbox car along the mattress slowly.
She always came out and watched the sunset after everyone else had gone to bed. Seeing the world fall asleep and the city wake up was one of the more beautiful things about the wasteland and she wasn't about to let it go unnoticed. She'd go in once the sunset ended.
He wasn’t going to fall asleep anyways and waiting was growing rather pathetic. And made his way to the roof. Jumping effortlessly and pulling himself up. He sat next to her wordlessly.
She didn't even notice he was there, too lost in her own thoughts. "I wish I could. But why would he like me?" She mumbled to herself under her breath. Very often when she was lost in thought, she would accidentally start saying her thoughts aloud.
He looked at her with a smile, “He thinks you’re perfect, he loves your insecurities,”
She nearly jumped in surprise. "What the-?! Jesus, you gave me a heart attack. How long have you been sitting there?" How much have you heard about me having a crush on you?
“Long enough,” he giggled, Honestly a little blind to what she was talking about.
I'm so screwed. Whatever! Might as well play it off as best I can. She took a deep breath, relaxing again. "Warn a girl next time. You scared me."
“Sorry,” he smiled out at the darkening sunset. “I figured I’d come see the second most beautiful thing in my life… the sunset. I didn’t know I’d find the first doing the same,”
A light pink color rose to her cheeks and she was more than grateful that the sunlight made it practically impossible to notice. "I always come out here and watch the sunset. The world has ripped everything else away from me, at least it hasn't taken my sunset."
“The sun is still there. Rising and falling like nothing has changed,”
"At least I have one thing constant in my life." She muttered to herself, gripping her locket tightly.
“That’s the thing, you say you grow tired of my charms or talking to the same people everyday but I Like it. The routine is natural. We’re like a little family that hates each other,”
You remind me so much of someone else I've lost… "And I'm not saying I hate that. Having the familiar routine and people is comforting. But I'm the oldest one here, I'm the mother of the group, it's my job to keep everyone safe and I don't know if I have the strength to do that on my own…" She was surprised she was talking about something like this so easily, it wasn't something that happened often. Or at all, really.
“I get it, I was the oldest in my family among my siblings. You never asked to be a parent, you never asked for any of tbis,” he clinched his jaw was he talking to her or himself.
"I couldn't save my own family. I thought maybe I could save a few people and be able to try again." She whispered. She blinked the tears away, thinking about her family hurt.
He wiped her tear carefully with his thumb. “You can’t save everyone,”
"But so many people try anyway." Her heart ached for some kind of comfort, something to make her forget about the world. I really shouldn't do this…oh well! "Actually, can you do something for me really quickly? I'm going to sound slightly insane but that should be normal at this point."
Nathan laughed lightly, “What do you need?”
"Just close your eyes. It sounds simple but trust me, I know what I'm doing." No I don't.
“Mmk?” He shut his eyes hesitating slightly. “Like this?”
"Yep, that's perfect. Now just stay still and don't speak." Oh god I'm going to regret this majorly. She took a deep breath and placed her lips on his. And in that one instant, the world faded away. Everything else was forgotten and she relaxed.
