Kate kissed him lightly. "Thank you," she whispered.
"You're welcome." He replied.
"the Leapords? Alisnt that battling other people? Vanessa isnt't hat dangerous? They kill down there."
¨Yeah I fight every friday¨ she said.
"You're welcome." He replied.
She stood up and prepared to leave. "You'll be okay?" she asked.
"Yeah. I'll be fine. Just pick me up when school ends."
"….that's why I've seen you with bruises and cuts. Have you killed?" He asked
¨No I just knock them unconsious¨ she said.
He nodded in understanding "that's not going to keep him away though, not for long at least."
Vanessa shooke her head " my mom's happy" she said
"Yeah. I'll be fine. Just pick me up when school ends."
She smiled weakly and hurried away.
He waited a bit then went to his class.
Kate burst into the hospital and sprinted to Maria's room.
"so? Doesn't your happiness count for something?" He said a bit annoyed
Vanessa sighed ´happiness is your thing not mine¨ she said.
He thought for a bit and got down from the ledge "meet me on Livingston avenue at 7:00." He walked to the door and jumped down the stairs, singing a little tune
Vanessa followed after him slowly.
"and the rain fell hard but there was no one to stop him- no no one to stop him- from going to edge of town, no one could stop him." He sang about as he entered the hallway that always looked dark and menacing. He let out a screem and smiled "no no one could stop him from the doing the deed"
Kate slowed as she approached Maria's door. The What Ifs returned.
"brink what are you doing" she asked
He paused and turned towards her, the strobe of the lights above illuminating him in a menacing light "Taking the long way to class, what does it look like?" He smiled innocently, having no intention to attend class
Vanessa walked to him " where are you going" she asked.
A doctor stood outside Maria's door. Kate tried to get past, but he blocked her. It took everything in her not to break his arm.
"Excuse me, I'm her daughter," she said smartly.
"No one is allowed in," he replied.
"But I'm–"
"No one," he repeated firmly. "Shouldn't you be in school, young lady?"
"out and about and aaaaallllll around" he sang "never stay too long in one place kitty, or you might get hurt."
Kate scowled. "Where is my mother?"
"You should be in school," the man repeated. "Should I call security?"
"My mother runs security!" Kate fumed, turning on her heel and storming out of the hospital.
