August kept the embrace for a few moments longer before letting go of Charlie, looking down slightly at her. “We will be okay, right?” He asked, now speaking aloud. He should really practice doing it more.
August kept the embrace for a few moments longer before letting go of Charlie, looking down slightly at her. “We will be okay, right?” He asked, now speaking aloud. He should really practice doing it more.
"Of course. Nothing is going to get between us." Charlie promised, nodding her head in agreement. "Remember that childhood rhyme we made up…when we used to make illusions of knights?" She asked slowly so August could read her lips.
(I tried to look for where you posted it before but I had no idea how far back it was, could you post it again lol?)
August gave a quick nod, an excited glint in his dark eyes. “Yes!” He exclaimed with a slight, usual stammer in his tone.
( Yeah, of course. I think this was it. . .
Twins to the last hour.
Twins to the last enemy.
Twins to the last fight.
Twins to the last breath. )
"Twins to the last hour." Charlie started, a small smile playing on her lips. She paused to let August say the next line.
August fidgeted with his sleeve, growing eager. “Twins to the last enemy,” he responded, almost a bit too quickly. He tended to speak or sign fast when he got excited.
Charlie chuckled at his excitement, her eyes crinkling at the corners as she smiled. "Twins to the last fight." She continued, weaving a faded illusion of a knight's sword in her hands.
August loved it when Charlie smiled that big. “Twins to the last breath,” he finished, weaving his own illusion of a detailed dagger in his hand as he grinned happily. It had been a while since they had done this.
Charlie laughed, weaving faded illusions of knights. Their details weren't sharp and precise since most of her energy had been sapped from creating the illusion on Caspian. She stabbed her sword at the first knight, and it exploded in a shower of mist.
August gave a laugh of delight as he jumped forwards in an offensive stance, slashing across another knight. He only laughed more when it burst into mist, and he weaved the illusion of the feeling of the mist touching his own before reaching out mentally and doing the same for Charlie.
Charlie smiled, captivated by the mist as it touched her skin. She slashed through the next knight, laughing joyfully as she ran through the soldiers. They hadn't done this in so long.
August looked over at Charlie, grinning widely. He cut down another knight in a graceful like manner, being light on his feet.
Charlie stabbed through the last knight, and it exploded in yet another spray of white mist. She glanced over at August, her sword fading away slowly.
Once the knights were gone, August looked over at Charlie. He had a giddy smile on his face as he dropped the illusion of the dagger. “That was fun,” he said aloud.
Charlie nodded in delight ,glancing around the garden. It was dark, long shadows cast around them. She suddenly dreaded what tomorrow was going to bring.
August’s lips fell into a slight frown when he noticed a slight shift in Charlie’s expression. “What?”
"Tomorrow." Charlie sighed, biting her bottom lip in thought as she looked up at her twin.
August ran a hand through his neat hair, getting it to its messy, bedhead looking style again. “I’m nervous too, but do you think these people would want to hurt anyone?”
"I spoke to Chak- er, the king," Charlie began, fidgeting with one of the bracelets on her wrists as she continued. "He told me about the arena. Everything is designed to make us turn against one another."
(Gotta go for the night, but I’ll be on tomorrow)
August frowned heavily and thought about it. How could that happen? Was it some sort of mental thing? “We have to stick together.”
( K, see ya! )

Charlie nodded solemnly. "I'll see if I can learn anything else." She answered after a long pause.
“I can always help. I can do my best to read lips,” August suggested, glancing around the garden.
"Should we go inside?" Charlie asked, now holding her mask in her hands. She ran her fingers over the embroidered roses as she waited for August's answer.
August gave a quick nod, stepping over to the door, which he held open for Charlie.
