Kam set him on the ground as gently as she could. Bridgett pulled a pen and her multi-tool from her jacket pocket. She pulled up Jay's shirt and was horrified to see bruises and cuts, new and old covering him.
Bridgett suppressed her anger and sadness to focus on relieving his lung of the blood. She put her ear close to both sides of his chest to listen. Right lung. She counted his ribs and took a deep breath. This better work… Carefully, but quickly, she stuck the knife into his skin, reaching his lung and plunged a tube from the pen in next to it. She pulled the knife out and watched as blood started to come out of the tube.
"Come on, Jay, breathe!" She whispered to him.
(Oof)
It was good that Jay was unconscious, or the process would likely be traumatic. His breathing gradually began growing more consistent and even, and he appeared to be mostly stable. However, this wasn't really a treatment that could be done at home, and he would still need stitches at the very least at a hospital.
Bridgett let out a breathe of relief. "Okay. Now we can continue to the hospital, but carefully." She said to Kam.
(How 'bout when we get Anyone At All on here, we can have the parent-confrontation at the hospital so that 1 they can get a few shots in before security and 2 security takes care of them! Then li'l chat with social services and they adopt Jay?)
(Would the parents like, come looking for him? Or would they be called in bc Dridgett aren't his parents and can't legally do anything?)
(The latter. I don't think they'd actually want to come)
(Okay, we can bring them in now if you want and like, have some drama before Anyone At All gets here)
(Let's do it. But first, Jay needs to be in the hospital. Also, what do you think of Bridgett having a kinda past in medicine so that's why she knew how to fix him and so they'll let her in to see the x rays and stuff?)
(Yeah sure maybe she volunteered at this hospital at some point)
At the ER, Jay was wheeled into a room on a cot. One of the nurses approached Bridgett. "We're going to need the parents here for some paperwork; can you fetch them, please?"
(Let's say Bridgett knows the house number in case of emergency)
"Yeah, of course." Bridgett pulled her cell out of her pocket and dialed their number. "Ms. Curtis, I'm sorry to bother you, but you're needed at the hospital." She did her best to keep the anger from her voice.
Bridgett couldn't tell what the response was, but it sounded like shouting and slurred speech. "Just come to the hospital, now." She hung up.
The nurses took Jay to scanning and then to surgery, leaving Kam and Bridgett to sit anxiously in the waiting room.
(Do you want to act as Jay's parents or should we all just move them around?)
Jay's parents arrived after he was out of surgery and awake. They seemed to have procrastinated as much as possible. When they walked in, they were still clearly drunk and angry. Mr. Curtis was holding a half full beer bottle as he stormed up to Jay's bed, yelling something about the 'good for nothing boy running off, should be grateful that he even has a roof over his head'. Then, he proceeded to smash the bottle against the side of Jay's head despite the nurses' best efforts to stop him, knocking the boy unconscious. "Why the h*ll do you need us here anyways?" He shouted at the terrified nurses in a slurred voice.
(You're welcome to be them as well if you want, I don't care)
Bridgett pushed past the nurses and wedged herself between the bed and Jay's parents. "You have no right to hurt this boy. Especially in a hospital." She said as firmly as she could.
Kam also came in the room and looked up at the boys father And Gasped
(imma say this is the moment they find out they are siblings)
(ok)
(The thing is, Bridgett seems really un-threatening 'cause she's like 5' 1'' but at the same time, I imagine her having a maternal fierceness that can be pretty intense, y'know? Mama bear Bridgett)
One of the nurses managed to pull herself together so as to rush to Jay's side to begin bandaging his head. "And why should I listen to you? He's our son, and we have every right to do whatever the h*ll we want with him, however useless he may be." Mrs. Curtis just watched from the doorway, drinking from a beer bottle of her own. It seemed that this was a regular occurrence, and that Mr. Curtis was generally the one abusing Jay physically. Her job seemed to be more on the verbal and emotional side of things.
Bridgett raised her chin. "Because no one ever has any right to hurt a child. Especially not your own." Bridgett glanced momentarily at Kam and furrowed her brows further. "What is it?"
"No-Nothing." she said wide eyed. She looked from His parents back to Jay then bakc to the parents.
Bridgett was a bit concerned about Kam, but didn't really have room for that in her mind at the moment. She continued glaring at Mr. Curtis. "You are a terrible father. Beating your boy, hurting him. He's seven. He doesn't deserve to be treated like trash."
Mr. Curtis turned towards Kam and realized who she was. He immediately strode up to her and grabbed tightly onto her arm. "Where have you been?! Has the boy been seeing you?!" One of the nurses came up to Mr. Curtis and slapped him hard across the face. "Now you listen here. I don't care if you are his father, that just makes it so much worse. I'll have you know that we have called the police and you and your wife will be arrested shortly." She said sharply, silently telling another nurse to lock the door.
(Dang it, I wanted Bridgett to be the one to slap him. Or punch him. And maybe we should wait for a while for Drew to get here before the police show up, shouldn't we?)
