“Hi Oliver, and that’s a cool power! Whereabouts are you guys from?”
“Hi Oliver, and that’s a cool power! Whereabouts are you guys from?”
"Yeah, I am. Mind if I come in?" Aether chuckled.
"Of course!" Magdalena exclaimed enthusiastically, letting Aether in before shutting the door. She hadn't had time to put her stuff away yet, so her bags were strewn across her bed.
Aether dragged in her suitcase, and tossed it on the bed. "The room looks magnificent," she said in awe. "I didn't know dorms could be this big!" The girl's attitude then saddened, remembering her room back home.
“I’m from Europe, specifically Greece, but not recently, ages and ages ago” He smiles, “I’m much older than I act, or look”
"I come from heaven, I suppose. Never spent much time there, though. I liked to sneak down to earth a lot. Honestly, considering a lot of things about me, it's a miracle I haven't been kicked out yet." Beau laughed. "And I guess I'm older than I look too, but I don't know exactly how old I am. I don't keep track. I'm physically and mentally around the human age of fourteen, though."
Barry’s eyebrows shot up. “Damn. I thought you guys were going to say Florida or something. I’m just.. eighteen and from New York.”
“New York!” Oliver’s eyes light up, “like, New York, New York?”
"Well, I presume he means that one, as I haven't heard of any other New Yorks. Humans have such a strange way of naming their homes…"
Barry laughed. “Yeah New York, New York. Like the song. I wanna wake up in a city that never sleeps…”, be sarted to sing with a smile.
“That’s so cool! I’ve never been to New York, I’ve really never been outside of Greece besides coming here.” He laughs, “without magic you wouldn’t even be able to understand me!”
“It’s very… busy. Bustle-y. And what’s greece like?”
“It’s very…not bustle-y. Pretty chill and relaxed, though definitely changed a lot in the past hundred years” he giggles
Barry’s eyes widened slightly. “Past hundred? Were you around for the Byzantine Empire too?”
(I’m a sucker for Greek History)
(Perfect! I’ve been learning about it)
Oliver seems slightly surprised, “I was! For part of the rise, and all of the fall” He laughs, “Is that something interesting?”
“What do you mean ‘is that something interesting’ the Byzantine Empire was the only structured civilization in Europe in a time of extreme chaos! It’s a historical marvel!”
His smile widens, “Well I like to call them the fun stoppers. Some of us rather enjoyed the extreme chaos without any of structure!”
Barry sighed in frustration. “I’m never going to win this argument, am I?” Still, he was grinning. “What about Ancient Greece? We’re you around then?”
“Part of it, it’s a bit blurry for me, but I do remember marveling at the art and technological advances, they were very impressive..” he sticks out his tongue slightly, “at least for the time!”
“What about the Library of Alexandria?” Barry leaned forward eagerly.
He frowns slightly, “oh now that, was a historical marvel…the Romans cared not for it though” he sighs, “the muses were quite disappointed in what had happened to it, because of it being dedicated to them after all”
Barry’s eyes almost popped out of his head. “Whoah, back up. The Nine Muses?? As in, the Nine Muses? Apollo’s Muses??”
He laughs, “the muses! The nymphs were well acquainted with them..” he sighs, “beautiful ladies they were”
“Explain. The gods were real???”
(Lmao Barry is a huge history nerd)
“Well of course! They were as real as you and I”
Barry felt like banging his head against the table. “Further explanation?”
“Well, when’s the last time you saw someone go to an altar to give sacrifices to Athena? Or they crave love so they pray to Aphrodite? Gods rely on the belief of others to continue their existence. If enough people don’t believe in them…they just…fade”
