Evera wouldn't waiver. "I know I seem weak –and useless." She took a deep breath to still her shaking. "But I will not let Riley suffer. I'll die first. So I'm going, and that's the end." She had already started to move back towards Johan's building.
Alice lost it. "Evera, I am not letting anyone else die if I have the option to stop it!" she shouted, throat constricting.
"You don't have the option," Evera said coldly, still walking away.
Alice took a deep breath to prevent herself from breaking down and strode after Evera. She caught up to her quickly, fueled by her worry. "We're not here to pick a fight, alright?" she reminded her in a shaky voice.
Evera nodded, still cold, still focused. "Right."
Alice noted the coolness. "Why are you annoyed, Evera?"
"We just wasted time arguing when we could've been getting her back," Evera snapped, her hands tugging at her shirt.
"You think I don't want to save her as much as you do?"
"I seriously doubt that," Eve said," not because I don't think you care –I know you do…It's just…" she fell quiet, her hands falling at her sides.
Alice looked over at her. "What is it?"
Evera wilted. "All of this. It's my fault. I put her in danger by investigating Johan, and then put her in more danger by sending her away. I thought I could protect her but I can't. I have a healing ability. I can't fight. But I'll give my life if it means saving hers."
Alice's expression softened. "I know what you mean, believe me." She paused. "The only reason Johan ever got to Matthew was because I was so obsessed with catching him that I didn't even realize my own son was in danger. But believe me, that determination will be all the fighting skills you need."
Evera smiled a bit, grateful. "Thank you for being here," She sighed. "Sorry I snapped at you. But I guess you understand."
//hey hey what’s going on
(Just got back home from a false dentist appointment, Yay!)
Alice nodded. "I'm not leaving until you and Riley are safe. And, I'm sorry for trying to stop you, but you have to understand where I'm coming from. People dying at Johan's hand is… something I'm afraid of. For obvious reasons."
(Wrong appointment time… the appointment is on Wednesday, no today)
//oh I was really concerned for a moment
Evera reached the building with Alice a few steps behind her. The building was still on fire, and now firetrucks and police cars surrounded the building. Hope leapt in her heart. Had Riley managed to contact the police? She hurried to the officer who looked to be in charge and asked, "Have you seen a woman my age around here? Possibly the one that called 911? She's African-American, dark eyes, shorter than me…"
(I'll be the police I guess?)
Alice put a reassuring hand on Evera's shoulder and scanned the area.
The policewoman looked up. "No, I haven't, but I don't deal with civilians. That would be Officer Binns." She nodded her head at him and went back to her files.
Evera nodded and mumbled a quick thank you as she hurried to Officer Binns. Her eyes wide and slightly wild, she asked, "Have you seen a woman? She might have placed the emergency call. She's shorter than me, with dark skin and hair?"
Xavier sat alone with the passed out Leonard, the girls had just ran off to find their friend, so he knew it was his job to find Lonan and bring the ship here.
Mel sat near the man, thinking.
