Marya nodded, satisfied and shut the door.
Gabriel sat down on the floor, yawning broadly.
The shower was nice and cold. It may sound weird, but Bakarne had always told Marya to keep the water freezing so she would "wake up". It made sense to Marya then and made sense to her now and even though she'd complained, she'd still done it. And Marya was still doing it, even after Bakarne died. I wish I didn't argue with you all the time, I could've spent it with you more productively. She let the water run through her hair and onto her cheeks, disguising tears.
Gabriel laid down on the floor, staring at the cieling. He folded his arms over his stomach. He himself had nothing to go home to, nobody to look to like Marya did. Not exciting history. Except the whole werewolf situation.
She quickly finished her shower and wrapped a towel around herself before opening the door.
The man was daydreaming on the floor outside the bathroom. "Heya,"
"Hey." Marya waved and stepped over his body, getting back to her room to change.
He tried to catch her ankle with his hand.
"What are you doing?" Marya shook her foot free and her eyes narrowed, "Just go take a shower, will you?"
"Oh, yes ma'am," he scrambled up into the bathroom.
Marya sighed and pushed the door open to her room and rifled through the closet, deciding on a different set of denim overalls and a striped long-sleeve shirt.
Gabriel yelped inside the bathroom, cos the water turned on too hot.
After changing into her clothes, Marya headed to the kitchen, packing sandwiches and food bars (mostly for herself) and she piled them into a backpack, dropping the backpack on a counter. She walked into mission control, a locked room for Gabe, and imagined Luka sitting there, headset/mic on his head, talking into the receiver and ruffling Marya's hair playfully.
Gabriel sat on the floor of the shower, holding his eyes shut. The feel of the droplets showering across his face was profoundly therapeutic, and rejuvinated his sleepiness right up from the grave Marya had dug for his chances of sleeping til 1 in the afternoon.
Marya blinked and Luka wasn't there anymore. She closed her eyes and banged her head, chiding herself for her foolishness. Luka is dead. Marya closed the door and locked it again, walking back into her room and sitting on the bed.
And his resillience wasn't much better than a rat's to food. So he fell asleep in the shower.
It'd been a long time and the water was still running. "Gabriel! I have limited water supply! I'm not rich!" Marya pounded on the door, "Hurry up!"
He didn't answer. Of course, because he was asleep.
Marya paced outside of the bathroom, worrying. Is he okay? I have to che-nope. I'm not going in there. Ever. She grasped the doorknob and got out her key, if he doesn't respond again, I'm going in. "GABRIEL!"
"What?" He garbled back, and the noise of his graceless fumbling finally shut off the shower. "What?"
Marya breathed a sigh of relief, "Gabriel. Stop. Wasting. The. Water."
