Distantly, Jay could see Phoenix hurtling towards the forest. "Idiot! They're not in the forest, you're letting it get to you! It'll eat you alive!" he called
"No, Jay!" Phoenix called back, not slowing down, "I can sense them. They're just up ahead, please trust me."
She was going to kill whoever had hurt Addi. No questions asked.
"They're not in the forest! Forest is bad! Forest is death!" Jay yelled. He felt like Phoenix was wrong, but somehow he knew she was probably right. That didn't change how he felt about the meltwood, and he certainly didn't want to go back of all places
As she approached the source of Addi's screams, Phoenix heard another voice.
"Oh stars no," she growled, reaching down mid-flight to grab a sharp knife from her boot.
I'm almost there, Addi, she transmitted.
Jay let out a noise of frustration before following Phoenix down. Wiry, spindly trees covered in odd sickly green markings became more and more visible, and he shuddered. "Wait up at least, the element of surprise is a thing!" he shouted after her
Too late for that, Phoenix thought, flapping her wings harder.
Then she saw them.
The purple skinned man stood with his back to her, his knife poised over Addi's face. Phoenix growled.
Jay, irritated, teleported in front of her. "Shut up and calm down for a minute," he hissed
Phoenix slashed her knife in front of her and bared her teeth. Her green eyes were dilated and glowing brighter than normal.
"He is hurting her, why should I wait? I should slit his throat right now," she growled, trying to get around Jay.
(Hey guys I might not be on tonight bc I'm going to a sleepover at a friend's. I might be on this afternoon. idk yet. and my tablet's about to die, so, later!)
(np dude) "No, we're going to use him to tell us where the satellite is," Jay said angrily
(Imma here for a bit)
Marfor heard something behind him. She turned, keeping his knife close to Addison's neck.
"We can knock him out, take him hostage, use him to get the satellite, and then ditch him somewhere we don't have to worry about him," Jay hissed quietly
Phoenix growled at him again, an almost animalistic sound. She looked between Jay and the purple-skinned person. She sheathed her dagger.
"Fine," she hissed, "But one wrong move and I reserve the right to kill him."
"Just let me take care of this. I'll make sure he's taken care of, then we can get the satellite and go home." Jay looked down at the purple-skinned person. "I'll land a ways away from him, then I'll go try to barter with him. That doesn't work, I'll knock him out. Deal?"
"Very well," Phoenix grumbled as she absorbed her wings, "I'll be just behind you ready to grab Addi if need be."
"Got it." Jay floated the hoverboard down to the forest, away from the purple man and Addison. He hopped off the hoverboard, leaving it active for Lucille. "I'll be back," he said before taking off in the general direction of Addison and the man who had taken her
“Don’t die!” She called after him.
Jay laughed at that, walking deeper into the forest. He walked for a while, and couldn't help but feel some form of fear creeping through him. He knew he shouldn't be as scared as he was, that this wasn't the same ring he was stuck in all those years ago, but the meltwood just had a feeling in it that wormed its way into his soul. He could distantly hear Cyprus muttering in his head, telling him he shouldn't worry, but the ghost sounded as wary as he was
