“Alright,” Rigel replied quietly, his grip tightening around Enyln as he watched the horizon. Is that a… wall? “I think I’m hallucinating again, Enyln,” Rigel whispered, closing his eyes and resting his forehead on Enyln’s shoulder.
“Alright,” Rigel replied quietly, his grip tightening around Enyln as he watched the horizon. Is that a… wall? “I think I’m hallucinating again, Enyln,” Rigel whispered, closing his eyes and resting his forehead on Enyln’s shoulder.
(Is he really hallucinateing? Or is there really a wall? Ack sorry.)
(Yeah, lol, it’s Paradis.)
(Oof alrighty.)
Enyln tilted her head slightly, "no I don't think you're hallucinating…" She seemed to trail off a bit before continuing her thoughts, "unless I am too." As they got closer realization dawned apon her face, "Oh my gosh Rigel! Is that…is that the place?" Her mind raced with excitement making her completely forget her fear of being in the open.
“Hmmm?” Rigel asked sleepily, blinking a few times as he looked at the horizon, “Wait, do you mean Paradis?” Rigel’s breath quickened, and he took the liberty to kick Meria in the side. Paradis, Enyln is safe, gosh, she’s safe.
A big grin lined Enyln's face. we're almost there. We're so close. she wanted to go faster- to get there faster. But for Rigel's week state, they didn't. "This is great! We're finally here!"
Rigel wanted to cry out of joy. He made it. They made it. Rigel had been traveling for so long… “Gosh, Enyln, we’re here!” Little tears started to tip out of his eyes, and his grip around Enyln’s waist turned into a hug and he grinned, “We made it, Enyln. We made it.” And I won’t be able to even enter. The thought made his smile fade, looking away from the wall. Enyln made it. That was enough for him, Rigel told himself.
Enyln pulled the horse to a stop just out side. Her breath quickened with anxiety and small tears glicened to the edges of her eyes. we made it. He's safe now. Enyln slid down and reached a hand up to help Rigel down, "shall we?" She laughed joyfully knowing that it was over. That they were safe. Rigel's safe.
Rigel slid off the horse, only stumbling a little bit but Enyln’s hand kept him upright. He forced a smile for Enyln’s sake, “We’re here. I can’t believe-“ A noise sounded from the wall, then suddenly a door opened up not a few yards away. Rigel gasped taking a step towards it. Were they letting him in? The door only led to a chamber, a pristine white chamber with vents on he ceiling. Rigel looked at Enyln, “Are you ready?”
Enyln eyed the place caution setting in once more. "Yeah, lets go." Her words where slow coming from her mouth as her eyes darted around. To Enyln it seemed far to clean, and far to easy. Why had no one called to them?
With her hand still gripping Rigels she took a step in. She faught to calm her nerves, its fine. Probably just how they do things around here.
Rigel stepped in, and the wall closed behind them. The vents let out a white gas, probably to cleanse the air. Rigel coughed a little bit, then a screen started to drop in from a panel in the ceiling. It blinked on to reveal a man’s face, smiling. “Hey there. Welcome to Paradis. My name is Reynold.” It took Rigel a second to process how it was live time, and how Reynold could probably see them.
Enyln jumped back, "holy heck-" her eyes darted around again. Something about this seemed off. "Um, hi?" She mumbled wondering if this guy could hear them.
Reynold laughed a little bit, “Sorry for all this… initiation? I don’t really know what to call it. But, you see, when someone arrives at Paradis’ walls, we need to make sure they don’t have the disease,” Reynold eyed Rigel as he explained, “If they’re immune, they can enter and immigrate to Paradis. We’ll need a blood test, then need to clear you both.” A second door slid open out of the wall, “Who would like to go first?”
Rigel spoke up before Enyln could, “The saying is ladies first.” Rigel touched her shoulder giving her an encouraging smile. Go in there, get cleared. Live in Paradis. Be safe.
"I-" Enyln gave a pleading look twords Rigel, "and if we're not?" Her voice took on a hardness that didn't quite reach her fetches. Would they kill them on sight? Send them away? Her mind raced with questions.
Reynolds looked away, sighing sadly, “Well, if you’re not immune, we have to do a few more tests just to make sure you’re in the clear, then you can enter. If you’re sick… We give you a choice. You can leave, go back out to the world. Or… You can get into Paradis, but not as a citizen. You’d help us find a cure.”
Rigel hardly cared, he stepped closer to Enyln and pushed her gently towards the door, “Go, Enyln, I’ll see you soon, I promise.” A complete and utter lie. But a necessary one.
"I-" Enyln wanted to protest more but at the same time she didn't want to stress him out. She gave his hand one last squeeze along with a peck on the cheek before going into the other room. The one that wasn't with Rigel. Something about this still threw her off. Why have it out in the open?
The door closed behind Enyln, another gas cleanse, then a third door opened to reveal a woman in a hazmat suit. The door closed behind the women as she entered, “Hi, I just need to prick your finger if that’s alright with you.”
Rigel let out a sigh, letting the strong confident appearance fall as he physically put most of his weight on the nearest wall. Reynolds gave Rigel a look of concern, and Rigel let out a few words through a strained voice, “Take care of her. Make sure she’s okay.”
Reynolds frowned, “You’re sick, I’m assuming?” Rigel nodded his response, trying to fight back against waves of nausea.
"Right." Enyln mumbled holding out her hand. "Will uh…will I see Rigel again soon?" Out of all the questions swimming through her head that was the first on to make it to her lips.
The woman pricked Enyln’s finger as she said, “Was Rigel traveling with you? It’s so rare we find people traveling in groups these days… But hopefully, as long as he’s immune, he should be fine.” The woman in the hazmat suit took the sample and went to the wall, putting it in a capsule and closing the lid. Off to be tested…
“Well, like I said, you have a choice? Would you rather go back out or help with finding a cure?” Reynolds asked, sympathetically frowning.
If Rigel went back out… he’d turn into a monster, probably causing more problems. Rigel sighed, still fighting nausea, “I can donate myself to finding a cure.”
Reynolds sighed sadly as well, “I’ll send some people in to collect you in a few minutes. I’m- I’m sorry… my mother died of the disease.”
That's the thing, he wasn't. And that's what frightened Enyln. "Uh yeah. We travelled together." She mumbled pulling her hand back and staring at the prick. The small bead of blood that formed. "But if he's not- will I still see him again?" Despration creeped into her voice and fear etched its self on her face.
The woman glanced at Enyln, “Well, I’m sure Reynold told you that Paradis gives the sick a choice. It he decides to leave… well, he’ll be gone. But if he wants to help find a cure, you might be able to see him again.” The woman sighed, waiting for the results to come back. They typically came fairly quickly.
A door -once again disguised as part of the wall- slid open and four hazmat suited people walked in, carrying a fifth hazmat suit. They instructed Rigel to put it on, and they helped him stand steadily, then helped seal up the suit. One of them gave him an apology and a thank you, but that was it.
Enyln nervously shifted from foot to foot waiting. It may have been her nervous but it felt like it was taking forever. "Does it take long?" She asked starting to wring her hands. Enyln felt the need to move, do something. Out side she'd have gone for a walk, or even shot her bow. But both options where gone. One long before the other.
“It shouldn’t take too long, I’m sure-“ An affirmative noise came from the sound system, and the woman smiled, “You’ve been cleared.” Cleansing gas went through the room one last time, and then the doors opened to reveal a long hallway. On the other end… Paradis.
The hazmat suited people held Rigel walk through rooms, going through many processes of disinfecting and cleansing, but eventually he was cleared to enter Paradis -wearing the hazmat suit- to be lead to a testing building.
Enyln took one last look back to where she'd last seen Rigel. "I'll see you soon." She mumbled before turning and heading into the hall way. Every step felt like she'd collapse. His dream- Rigels and her brothers, and now she was here. It felt wrong not to go through with him. That he had to stay back for his own inspection.
The woman in the hazmat suit opened the door for Enyln, “Welcome to Paradis.” The safe haven was beautiful, a city build beneath a protective transparent dome. All of it was surrounded by the huge wall, made to keep mutants and the disease out.
Rigel was led out through a smaller door, a passageway meant to make the trip from the wall to the testing building as short as possible. When Rigel was led out into Paradis… He thought he saw her, he thought he saw Enyln. But then the hazmat people led him on, not letting him get a second glance. They were taking him directly to the labs, apparently.
