He stared at her for another moment, his tail swishing. Then, without any warning whatsoever, he grabbed her arm and hurled her to the ground. He reared up and yelled furiously, his front hooves slicing through the air above their heads. As he came down, he caught Asura squarely in the chest with one hoof, knocking him back. He retreated for a second, then trotted around the group, looking for another opening. His teeth were bared savagely.
Pluto went down hard, shouting a string of profanities in Russian. A machete materialized in her hand as she hopped to her feet. "That's it, I'm stabbing something!"
"No!" Kaiser shouted, but it was too late. At the stallion's outburst, one of the mares had cried out and started driving the herd across the path. Some of the centaurs ran dangerously close to the group, blinded as they were by fear. The stallion charged again through the clouds of dust, lunging at Kaiser. Kaiser teleported out of the way, but his movement was limited by the narrowness of the path.
Asura stumbled backward, then instinctively raised his staff, pointing it at the creature. "Am I allowed to kill it?"
"Absolutely not!" Kaiser struggled to stay out of the way of the deadly hooves. "The wrath of Urth would spare none of us!"
"Oh for pete's sake," Mike growled. "Hungarius, you're useless with animals. Guys, run away from the herd! He thinks we're trying to attack it!"
"I don't care if I'm allowed, I'll start slitting throats in a minute!" Pluto growled
"Just get upwind and get together so he can't pick us off," Mike yelled. "He's not rabid or anything, he won't attack if we don't look vulnerable!"
Pluto walked over to them, brandishing her blade defensively. "Are you sure I can't stab one of them?"
"Absolutely sure," Kaiser panted as he joined them. "This is the largest centaur herd in Teppa. To threaten the leader would amount to suicide. Even if the herd didn't trample us, Urth or his servants would soon see us dead."
The stallion faced them a few yards away, still very angry. He didn't look ready to back down just yet.
"Well what do we do? We've gotta stay on the path, but fuzzy over there looks like he wants to eat us!" Pluto said
Mike stepped forward. "Pluto, you and I distract him while Kaiser opens up a portal big enough for all of us. We won't kill him, just knock him around a little. Asura, watch our backs in case the herd circles around behind us."
Kaiser glared at Mike. "To teleport this far from the gate is a violation ofโ"
"Screw the rules, we gotta get out of here." Mike drew his hunting knife and stared towards the stallion. "Come on, Pluto."
Asura nodded, turning to keep an eye on the herd.
Pluto dissolved her knife in favor of her fists. Black starry ink shot up her hands as they formed into claws, and her wings extended a little and bristled. She fake rushed the centaur, flapping her wings and yelling at it to try and draw its attention
The centaur leaped back in surprise, staring at her wings. Mike took that opportunity to come from the other side and sting the stallion in the ribs with his knife. "Drive him back toward the herd, but don't get too far from the others. Hurry, Kaiser!"
"Halfway there," Kaiser called from behind them. "It's harder to open portals here!"
Pluto kept shouting at it, flapping her wings. Suddenly, she had an idea. "I've still got those tranqs from earlier in my system, can I knock him out?"
"Try it, if you get a chance, but don't take any unnecessary risks."

She flapped her wings, coming dangerously close to slicing the centaur across the chest. It reared back, and Pluto spun around to gash its side. It connected, oozing the same black substance on her claws. The centaur fumbled, swiping at her. The tranqs knocked it off balance before it could connect, and it fell unconscious to the ground

(Okay) "Good work," Mike said, nodding at the centaur and sheathing his knife. "Let's get back to the others, looks like Kaiser's got that portal open."
Pluto nodded, claws returning to normal. Splotches of black remained on her skin but she ignored it, brushing it off as something to do with the realm they were in. She walked over to Kaiser
