(I think I'm going to change my mind and go with herbivorous after all, sorry XD) It didn't take long to spot something: up ahead, a large herd of what might have been horses was grazing in a valley, all around the path. There was something strange about them though. On closer inspection, they turned out to be centaurs, completely covered in thick fur of all colors and patterns. Some glanced up at Pluto warily, but didn't spook.
(lol) Pluto squinted at them. She flew just a little lower, trying to see whether or not they really were centaurs. She did her best to keep quiet, trying not to startle any of them
They were indeed centaurs, with horse-like ears and fur even on their human halves. Mostly the herd was made of mares, foals, and a few yearlings, and altogether they numbered about fifty. As they saw Pluto coming closer, they threw their heads up and a few trotted away from her shadow as it passed over them. Their dark eyes were suspicious and watchful beneath their tangled hair.
Pluto flew back up, realizing what they were dealing with. She turned back, flying until she had landed next to the others. "Centaurs. Fifty or so. Gonna have fun dealing with those."
(where are you guys? I'm thinking of having Asura shimmy in sometime soon)
(just landed back on the path in the forest)
(I think Asura's still with them atm, just not saying anything. They're in a prairie right now btw)
Mike tilted his head. "Those exist?"
"Yes," Kaiser said, narrowing his eyes. "They are not like the centaurs in books, I'm afraid. More animal than human, very wild and skittish. We'll have to be quite careful not to cause a stampede, or worse, anger them enough to make them attack. If we are seen as a threat, we will be brutally killed."
"That sounds like a lovely way to die," Pluto grumbled
Asura stepped forward, his body materializing in the air in front of them. He wore an elegant jacket with intricate patterns, and had gleaming silver necklaces around his neck. He fiddled with a small ring. "I got something that I think we might need."
"We're all ears," Mike said.
He held up the ring. "This is Lucifer's. It what he uses to curse things. He used this ring to keep me banished from most of my own universe. He also used it to cast curses on several other people. If this ring is destroyed, so are all curses and banishments that the ring created." He slipped it into his pocket with a small smile. "We can use it as blackmail."
"We could use it to lure him into the meltwood," Pluto said, realization dawning on her face
Mike squinted at him for a second, then blinked. "Oh! Good one. Yeah, blackmail's a good motivator, at least in my world."
"That's all very well and good," Kaiser said, "But only if we manage to survive that long. Shall we carry on? We still have some ground to cover."
(gonna vanish for a bit to get food)
(does Asura know Kaiser? I forgot)
(Um yeah he was there when Kaiser showed up technically)
(okay)
"What are we doing?" He asked.
"In order to leave this realm, we must reach the end of the path. I do not believe we are very far. In order to reach the end, we must carefully and quietly navigate the herd of centaurs that is currently surrounding the path. Difficult, but doable. Clear?"
"Can't we just…Go around them? Or I could fly us over them?" Pluto suggested
"Recall that leaving the path, even for an instant, would cause us to lose it forever. And quite honestly, I think it would be less risky to discreetly walk through them rather than try to fly or use my teleportation powers."
"Let's try it," Mike said. "If they start freaking out, we'll either get out or scare them off. If they're anything like normal horses, they're not very brave."
"Right. Great. Okay. Just don't cause a stampede of angry centaurs. What could go wrong?"
"There's no way we can cloak ourselves?" Asura asked. He knew that warlocks could do it.
"Nothing can hide from a centaur's nose. We'll have to be bold." Carefully, started down the path toward the herd. "Stay behind me, and make no sudden moves or loud noises."
(I had to leave too sorry. Youth group)
